summer began and the heat started to overwhelm people, everyone looked for a place to simply cool down. And what better place than the pool?
Although for children is very important to spend their summer doing activities such as swimming in their house pool, things can get a bit out of hand. It is widely known that children can drown in as little as 2 inches of water and that is why parents should be extremely careful and stick around when they see their children jumping in the pool.
A group of doctors at the Trauma Centre of The Montreal Children’s Hospital gave express warning for toddlers and pre-school children, as they are extremely curious and impulsive and let’s face it, they are unable to recognize the potential dangers a pool may bring forth. In order to prevent anything from happening, the doctors suggested that people should put a fence around the pool. They also suggested that the fence should be 4 feet high the least and it is vital for the fence to lock automatically and not to have any gaps between it and the ground. “There must be no direct access to the pool from the house, balcony or patio,” said the Trauma Director, Debbie Friedman.
Furthermore, the hospital even made up an entire list of things parents should do when it comes to protecting their children from getting hurt in the pool and outside of it. First of all, parents should be present at all times when their children are in the pool and if their children are under 5 or older but cannot swim, they should equip them with proper personal floatation devices. Furthermore, it seems that children should preferably take swimming lessons, even at a very young age, because that is the best way to protect them from d
