Roberto Mancini is likely to have Sergio Aguero at the Eastlands as the 23-year-old Argentine has arrived in Manchester for the medical. The former Atletico Madrid star move has been reported to be worth 40 million pounds, but neither of the two clubs has revealed the material agreement.
Aguero scored 20 goals for the Spaniards last season, having become a long-term target for Manchester City, Real Madrid and Chelsea. His transfer to Jose Mourinho’s side failed because of the local rivalry as City looked the most willing to pay the proper amount of money to the former European champions. The Argentine is expected to sign a long-term deal with Mancini’s side with whom he will make hi UEFA Champions League debut, as well.
The move now only depends on the personal terms between the player and the new club. Aguero confirmed the news on Twitter where he posted that “just arrived in Manchester to tie up the details of the signing for City. Everything is going well. I’ll tell you more in a little while.” His move was also confriemd by his former coach Gregorio Manzano. “It does look like this long-running issue will be resolved in the coming hours. It is at an end. I had hoped that he could have chosen a better, more professional way to leave and shown more love to the club,” he said.
Apart from his move, City could keep Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor in Manchester, though the Argentine is keen to part with the English and return back home in South America. Unfortunately a move to his former club Corinthians failed as the 27-year-old is now looking for another side. As for the Togolese, the 27-year-old Adebayor, who spent the last six months with Real Madrid, is desperate to stay on Santiago Bernabeu, though the two sides have not come to an agreement for him.
Jose Mourinho also looked keen to keep the striker, who scored eight goals for his side, but City are hard to be convinced. Anyway, Aguero, whose adventure with Atletico included 68 goals, has become the third big name to sign Manchester this summer after Gael Clichy of Arsenal and former Partizan Belgrade Stefan Savic were give four-season deals, each this window.
Furthermore, Manchester are still dreaming of bringing Santos’s revelation Neymar on their side, though the 19-year-old striker, who helped the Brazilians to win the Brazilian double as well as this term’s Copa Libertadores, revealed that Real Madrid are top of the wishlist at the moment. Neymar is also set to stay at Santos for at least six more months, if not one year, as his agent declared at one point.
City finished the past season third with 71 points, nine behind arch rivals United and are now looking forward to strengthening their side for the upcoming Champions League competition. Manchester are following two wins and a draw in the pre-season as Mancini’s side beat Club America 2-0, Vancouver Whtiecaps 2-1 and drew Los Angeles Galaxy 1-1. Next up for them are Airtricity League XI and Inter Milan whom the English meet on July 31. City are set to make their debut in Premier League at home against newly-promoted Swansea City.
