Cesc Fabregas’s move from the Emirates, says Catalans’ vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu, who has declared that the negotiations are heading towards a favorable answer from the English side.
Fabregas, whose return to Camp Nou has been dealing for months, still dreams of his move back to the European champions whom they left back in 2003 to join Arsene Wenger’s side with which he didn’t win any big trophies. The lack of success made the Spaniard consider his return, but the French manager is still keen to keep the playmaker in London despite all the pressure from the Spanish side and player’s desire to part with the Gunners soon as possible.
FC Barcelona have advanced a reported 40 million pound-deal towards Arsenal, but the two sides are still in talks for the player who has been expecting his transfer back at home for two years. Said Bartomeu: “We will try and do what we can with the money we have. We have until August 30 to do things and I am sure we will. The talks are going in the right direction.”
Although they have only made on big-name transfer this summer, that of Alexis Sanchez, Barca are likely to sign at least a couple of more important players, according to the same vice-president. Sanchez has become the first Chilean to sign Barcelona as the striker was given a five-year deal with the Spanish champions. The former Udinese’s forwarder finished the term with 12 goals and 31 selections for the Italian side which he helped to qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage.
The Catalans spent 37 million euros for the 22-year-old who is now likely to join Messi, Pedro and David Villa in Pep Guardiola’s attack. Overall, he had scored 20 goals for the Italian side, the player being at his fifth team now, having also played for Cobreola, Colo-Colo and River Plate. Apart from Sanchez and Fabregas’s moves, the Catalans have also looked interested in Brazil’s revelation Neymar who is likely to join La Liga next year.
Santos’s 19-year-old striker has declared though that Real Madrid are top of the wishlist and Jose Mourinho’s side will be the first to consider if he decides to part with his current side. Player’s agent had revealed at one point that five European giants, including Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City are willing to pay them more than $64 million for Neymar’s services.
Among all, the Catalans are the only ones who do not allow that money this summer. Real Madrid looked instead to pay the proper amount today if asked. Meanwhile the player said that he would commit to Santos with which he could continue until next year. Furthermore, his agent stunned the candidates when he declared that he fights for a one-year extension with Santos.
Neymar is under deal with the Brazilians until 2014, but the wide interest coming from Europe could shorten his agreement. “The exact situation is as follows: Barcelona want him next year and will pay next year, Madrid want him now and are prepared to pay now,” had declared Wagner Ribeiro at one point.
FC Barcelona defended their title after finishing first in La Liga, four points ahead of arch-rivals and Copa del Rey winners Real Madrid whom they had also ousted from the UCL semi finals. The Catalans are to meet Jose Mourinho’s side on August 14 in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup and on 17 in the second term.
