Cibulkova has advanced into the second term of the Stanford tournament when the Slovak ousted Kimiko Date Krumm in two sets, 6-2, 7-6. Next up for her is crowd’s favorite Christina McHale who has also eased through into the next round.
Cibulkova captured a couple of early points in front of Krumm whose best performance was to push the second term into breaker. The Japanese, who hasn’t shined too bright this term, thus forced her opponent to fight for the victory desperately in the tie-break which the Slovak eventually won at seven, but after surviving a big scare in the last term. Cibulkova had match point at 5-3 as Krumm threatened with a late comeback she unfortunately failed to manage well, conceding the victory in nearly one hour and a half.
The Slovak will next face Christina McHale of United States, who has only dropped one game against Mirjana Lucic of Croatia whom she destroyed 6-1, 6-0. The American will meet the world number 19 for the first time ever, being expected to start the second round as second favorite.
On the second half of the draw, Agnieszka Radwanska crashed Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 6-1, 6-2 to meet Kai Chen Chang of Taipei who has laos picked a straight-set win against Hilary Barte whom the Chinese beat 7-6, 6-4. Top seed Victoria Azarenka is favored by a BYE in the first term, being expected to make her debut against the winner between Sofia Arvidsson and Marina Erakovic of New Zealand.
On the same first half of the table, former world number one Ana Ivanovic is to start the event with a meeting against Ayumi Morita of Japan. Urszula Radwanska will meet Olga Savchuk, the winner being expected to face either the Serb or Morita in the second round.
This year’s French Open and former world leader Maria Sharapova starts the American tournament as second seed and is also favored by a BYE in the first term. The Russian could meet Daniel Hantuchova, winner of this term’s Pattay City event, if the Slovak beats Rika Fujiwara of Japan.
Julia Gorges meets Maria Kirilenko in the first term, while Serena Williams makes her debut against Anastasia Rodionova of Australia. Finally, Simona Halep from Romania has been drawn Sabine Lisicki, this term’s Birmignham champion, in the first term, the winner being expected to meet Samantha Stosur.

Said Marino after the game: “I’m pretty happy with the way I played today. with the way I played today,” Marino said. “It was my first match of the US Open summer series and I was able to get the win, which is always a good feeling.
