The trial of former minister of interior of Egypt was postponed on Tuesday by a court, which decided that the case be judged together with the one of the former president Hosni Mubarak.
This move is likely to spark other protests in Tahrir Square, since the people of Egypt are already dissatisfied with the pace of the trials of former leaders of the regime.
The decision was announced by the judged on national television, as many people were watching the opening of the trial, and was received with shouts of disapproval of the postponement by the people in the courtroom.
By this decision, former minister Habib al-Adly will be judged with former president Mubarak on August 3. Many experts consider this trial will also be postponed, which will increase the dissatisfaction of the people in the streets.
Al-Adly was already convicted to 12 years in prison for charges of corruption. He is accused along with Mubarak of ordering the police to fire on the protestors during the 18 days of protests in Tahrir Square and in other parts of the country. Hundreds of people lost their lives in those days of protest.
A spokesman for one of the activists groups said that the decision of the court resembles the mentality of the courts during the Mubarak regime. They accuse them that they take orders from the political leaders, in this case the military council.
The trials of the former leadership of Egypt are paramount for the success of the revolution, the spokesman says. Therefore, it is important that the former president and his minister of interior be judged like all others accused of crimes.
It is believed that even seeing the former powerful leaders of the regime in prison clothes standing in the dock is a consolation to all those who had to suffer during the revolution.
Mubarak’s trial could be postponed because of his poor health condition, since he was committed to the hospital in Sharm el Sheik, where he resides under house arrest since he resigned office.
The revolution in Egypt succeeded in toppling Mubarak and his clique but it is far from being over, as the people are still in the streets, demanding the speeding up of reforms, the trials for those involved in the shooting against the people in January and February.
Last week the military council decided that the elections will be held in October, that they would be staged in three rounds, and that they would be very transparent and correct, so that all the nations may know Egypt is a democratic country.
Preparations for the elections will begin in September, after the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Half of the seats in the parliament are said to be reserved by the military rulers to peasants and workers.
The people who organized sit-ins for weeks in front of the governmental buildings had demanded that even the constitution draft be speeded up so that the Constitution does not include the vision of Islamists, who are expected to win many seats in the next parliament.
