An Si-ha was an obscure veteran musical actress when she got the leading role of "Aida" three years ago. This made her an overnight star in the musical world. She is currently playing in the Korean production of the Broadway hit musical Cinderella and cherishes the role all the more because it reminds her of her younger days when she dreamed of a better life and strived to achieve it.

"I really wanted to do this because I loved the story of overcoming destiny and finding happiness", An said. "But this has been a challenging project. I appear in almost every scene, and I sing 14 solo songs. There is a lot of dancing too".

She gets most nervous in the two scenes when Cinderella transforms in a second from a humble girl in rags to a lady in a princess-like dress.

"I practiced those scenes repeatedly over a hundred times morning and night, and it still makes me nervous".
An, who just liked singing as a young girl, came to Seoul from her hometown in Chungcheong Province without any purpose after she failed to enter university. She happened to see an advertisement on TV about recruiting wanna-be musical actors, and that changed her life forever.

"I didn't even know what a musical was then, and later I found out that it was dancing, singing and acting altogether", An said. "It mesmerized me, and I saw a flash of hope".

She made her debut in 2004 but remained in supporting roles for nearly 10 years. During the auditions for "Aida", Ahn actually worked as a singing partner for applicants, but ended up winning the starring role of Amneris.

"After a performance of Cinderella when I do the final bow, I see older audience members getting more excited, waving and cheering vehemently. I think it's because Cinderella brings back innocent childhood memories", she said.
