News Account Hacked
Since this morning, Fox News has seen a flurry of messages that sent an electrifying signal throughout the entire Twitter network. There have been a series of rumors that president Obama has been assassinated while on a campaign in Iowa.
The Twitter account, @foxnewspolitics was hacked and was used to place this information online. FoxNews.com posted a small statement in which they’ve explain that the report was incorrect and there was no proof to sustain the horrible affirmation. The president is safe and sound and happily spending 4th of July with his family. The statement ended with an apology for all the distress created by the false Tweets placed.
The messages that were still online this morning sent a shock through senior Secret Service officials, that gathered this morning to discuss the false messages. General manager and vice president Jeff Misenti gave a statement later this morning in which said that a thorough investigation will be made on Twitter in order to find out what happened, and prevent such unauthorized intrusions in the future.
The political news account belonging to FoxNews.com has no less than 36.302 followers. The account did not have any activity since Friday, but today, at 2 AM Monday, a series of messages were posted on Twitter claiming that “The President is dead” and that it is indeed a sad 4th of July. Another claims that the president received two shots, one in the pelvic area and the other in the neck, placing “bleed out” as the disturbing cause of death. What was the point of all that? In truth the president was with his family in Camp David and returned to the White House on Sunday.
Analyzing the posts, officials discovered that they were written in a different manner compared to the ones on the Fox News account. It did not have that urgent edge of sending a message and did not come with any proof or any source that might confirm the validity of the posts.
There was an impressive number of reports that the anonymous hacking group known as Script kiddies were responsible for the attack and the malicious tweets posted. There were some links that supposedly contained an interview with one of the members of the group. The links were also disabled Monday morning. Investigations are still en route to find out the real attackers that shocked the entire Twitter network and the rest of America. Do you think they will ever get caught?
