The Dreamliner was designed to be the most fuel efficient aircraft in the world because a low fuel consumption is as important for aircrafts as it is for cars. On July 3, the newly manufactured Boeing 787 arrived in the Haneda Airport located in Tokyo. Its flight started in Renton which is located near Seattle and is Boeing’s headquarter. A Japanese destination was chosen because the Dreamliner still needs to be the subject of some tests that will be supervised by All Nippon Airways (ANA). If the aircraft does good it will be completely ready for the autumn of 2011 when its commercial launch is scheduled to take place.
The two year delay that followed the 2007 unveiling of the Dreamliner project which was supposed to be completely functional in May 2008 was the result of a series of problems that the engineers had to take care of during the production and the testing stages. Considering that this is the first aircraft that uses lightweight materials for almost every component, we shouldn’t be surprised of the delay. What’s important is the outcome that has provided the industry with an aircraft that has a fuel consumption reduced by 20 percent. Another feature that distinguishes this plane allows the Boeing 787 to considerably reduce the noise level and become one of the quietest aircrafts on the market.
Other features that were taken into consideration by the designers and engineers are meant to provide air travelers with more comfortable flights. Who wouldn’t enjoy a flight in larger seats and with the possibility of admiring the scenery on larger cabin windows? The Dreamliner offers a solution for the contaminated air problem as well. According to scientist this cabin contaminated air has a negative impact every year on the well-being of more than 200,000 British passengers.
The traditional aircrafts use a system that removes bacteria or viruses from the air pumped in the cabin, but is unable to also remove engine residue’s that end up contaminating the air breathed by hundreds of passengers. This problem was solved on the Dreamliner by adding a separate source of air.
It seems like the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is going to be a huge success because the company has already agreed to honor 835 order that come for major companies like ANA or British Airways.
