Chelsea’s top scorer Florent Malouda and winger Ashley Cole have revealed they aren’t willing to leave the Stamford B ridge side as both of them have pledged their future to the Blues.
The French midfielder, who has joined the West-Londoners back in 2007, has to plans to pack from Chelsea with which he has two years left. Malouda has declared he would sign at least one-year extension to the original contract, especially if the relationship with the new coach Andre Villas Boas will be one of the best ones. The Frenchman finished the season with 15 goals and four assists, being among the best Blues player of the year.
“My relationship with the coach is good. My contract at Chelsea runs until 2013, and I want to stay until 2014 at least,” said Malouda, who failed to defend the title this past season. Ashley Cole is also among the Blues players who don’t want to leave the English champions whom he has joined back in 2006 after departing from Arsenal. The 30-year-old English left back was also among the best assisters on Stamford Bridge in the last season, finishing the term with three assists.
Cole, who has scored six goals and gathered 149 appearances with the Blues, declared he has no plans to join other team this summer. “Never even thought about it. I had issues before where I thought about it, but this season I have been fine, I have been on holiday so I have not read anything.”
Chelsea ended the year second in the standings, with 81 points, nine behind the new champions Manchester Untied, something which led to Carlo Ancelotti’s sacking. The Italian manager, who had previously won the English double – including the FA Cup and the Premiership title – failed to lead the Blues into the UEFA Champions League superior phases where Chelsea was ousted by the same Manchester United in the quarter finals.
Blues new coach Boas has signed a three-year deal with the Stamford Bridge side, having become the youngest Premier League coach. The Portuguese, who helped FC Porto win the Portuguese double and the Europa League trophy, looked willing to make some changes in London with strikers Hulk and Falcao among the main favorites. Although neither of the two sides have confirmed any rumor yet, the Portuguese manager is likely to bring at least one of his former players.
Boas is at his second mandate in West London after he also worked as assistant for Chelsea’s former manager Jose Mourinho. His arrival was appreciated by both club’s board and the players, with whom the Portuguese expects to develop a very good relationship despite the fact that a few players are older than him.
Chelsea haven’t made any transfer so far this window, but – according to the English reports – they are nearing Javier Pastore’s deal. The Palermo playmaker finished the season with 11 goals and five assists, being included in 35 games. He is now likely to leave Sicily after two years spent with the Italian Cup finalists for which he scored 14 goals in 69 matches. Italians’ president Maurizio Zamparini revealed that the 22-year-old Argentine has 90 percent chances to join Premier League this summer with Chelsea and Manchester Untied among the main candidates.
