Pastore left Palermo to join former French champions Paris Saint-Germain for a 38 million pound and deal as main candidates Chelsea were beaten in the Argentine’s race. The 22-year-old is to pen a five-year deal with the new side, his fourth of career.
PSG have already spent tens of million on transfers, the Argentine being the sixth player to join the French club who will be chasing the domestic double and the UEFA Champions League group stage next season. Palermo president, Maurizio Zamparini, who had declared at one point that a couple of teams had offered more than 50 million on the striker, has confirmed that the player will join PSG immediately. According to Zamparini, the deal was set on Friday and that the player is no longer part of the Sicilian side.
“We closed the deal last night (Friday) around midnight. Basically it’s the official transfer of Pastore to Paris St Germain based on a €43m,” he added. Pastore helped the Italians to reach this term’s Italian Cup final and grab an Europa League place. The Argentine, who had previously played for Huracan and Talleres, is to set new heights with PSG whose plans are huge this season.
Pastore, who finished the season with 11 goals and five assists in 35 games, scored 15 goals and gathered 69 selections with the Italians whom he had joined back in 2009. His international career only includes nine selections with Argentine and no goals. Apart from Pastore, the French club has also signed Jeremy Menez, Blaise Matuidi, Milan Bisevac, Salvatore Sirigu and Mohamed Sissoko.
The first two were given two three-year deals, while Bisevac who split with Valenciennes was also given a three-season contract, being expected to make his Europa League debut. Finally, PSG’s new sporting director, Leonardo, who is also a new employer, has presented keeper Sirigu from the same Palermo and Sissoko who part with Juventus after a three-year mandate.
“I opted for PSG because the club has a very ambitious project. I didn’t hesitate for a second when the chance presented itself. Leonardo and Antoine Kombouaré found the right words. I was motivated by the project. I’ve never played in France,” said Sissoko who only scored three goals in 71 games with his former side.
His experience includes at the same time three years with Liverpool for which he had scored one goal in 51 games, two years with Valencia for which he had played 45 games and one season with his first career club Auxerre. PSG finished the season, four points behind Olympique Lyon, on fourth position which sends them through the EL group stage. Since a Qatari group has become the main holder in Paris, PSG have now become a real threat on the transfer market as the new investors are to pump hundreds of millions.
PSG will make the new season debut against FC Lorient whom Antoine Kombouare’s team meet on August 6. The French side are currently in London for a friendly game with New York Red Bull.
