Klinsmann appointed as US coach
Klinsmann is at his third team, having spent two years with the German national team and one with the former champions Bayern Munich. The German hasn’t shined too bright as manager, but is expected to set new eights with the Americans whose best international performance under Bradley is a last 16 round played against Ghana at the 2010 South African World Cup, phase the US side lost 1-2 to the Africans.
Bradley led his former side to the 2009 Confederations Cup final where they were beaten by Brazil after they had previously ousted European champions Spain 2-0. But the US Soccer Federation looked thrilled to have the German for at least two years, though the length of the deal has not been revealed. “We are excited to have Jürgen as the head coach of our Men’s National Team. He is a highly accomplished player and coach with the experience and knowledge to advance the program. Jürgen has had success in many different areas of the game and we look forward to the leadership he will provide on and off the field,” said US Soccer boss Sunil Gulati.
Kilnsmann will make his debut on August 10 when United States meet Mexico in a Golden Cup final reiteration. As a player, the German is winner of the 1990 World Cup as well as the 1996 European championship. He also grabbed 108 caps for the nation al team for which he scored 47 goals. Cocnerning his club performances, Klinsmann is winner of the UEFA Cup with both Inter Milan and Bayern Munich as well as of the Italian Super Cup and German title.
In 2009 he split with Bayern after a poor season which saw the German champions finish second, two points behind champions VfL Wolfsburg. Concerning his job with the national team of Germany, it ended with a semi final loss to the eventually World Cup champions Italy. Kilnsmann was replaced by current Germany coach Joachim Low on July 2006.
