Red Bull have grabbed yet another pole as Mark Webber came fastest in the Saturday’s qualifying at the Silverstone Grand Prix. The Aussie set a one minute and 30,399 second time, being followed by team-mate Sebastian Vettel who was just 0,032 slower than him.
Red Bull had also had a remarkable free practice as Vettel had set the best time in the third training, while Webber won the first one on Friday. Felipe Massa won the second session, but came fourth in the race. Former world champion Fernando Alonso wills tart on third position as the Spaniard was 0,117 slower then Webber. Jenson Button came fifth, 1,499 seconds slower than the Aussie, while his McLaren team-mate Lewis Hamilton, winner at the Chinese Grand Prix, set a poor 1,977 gap, being expected to start on tenth place tomorrow.
Force India broke through in the qualifying, having Paul di Resta on sixth position thanks to a 1,530 gap. Williams, too, have set a good qualifying time through Pastor Maldonado who was 1,534 seconds slower than the leader. Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber and Nico Rosberg came eighth and ninth with a 1,729 and 1,810 second gap respectively.
Force India’s Adrian Sutil set a 2,218 second gap and will start on 11th position, followed by Sauber’s Sergio Perez who was 2,225 seconds slower than Webber. Former world champion Michael Schumacher came 13th with a 2,257 second gap, being followed by Renault’s Vitaly Petrov who had a very poor qualifying, coming 2,335 seconds behind the leader.
Rubens Barraichello of Williams came 15th with a 2,720 second gap, while Renault’s Nick Heidfeld and Lotus’s Heikki Kovalainen came 16th and 17th with a 3,406 and a 4,422 second chasm. Finally, Toro Rosso’s Alguersuari and Buemi, as well as Virgin’s T. Glock came last.
Sebastian Vettel looked pleased with the second position, the German having won six trophies this season. “I am happy with the result, as I think it is important to qualify in the front. It was not an easy session with the conditions changing. It was easy to go wide and go into travel like Fernando, so all in all it was very tight.
The 23-year0old elads the world standings with 186 points, 77 ahead of his main follower and team-mate Webber who has gathered 109 points this term, the same as Jenson Button. Lewis Hamilton is fourth with 97 points, while Fernando Alonso, who is still chasing his first trophy of the season, is fifth with 87.
Ferrari’s Felipe Massa is sixth with 42, ten above Mercedes’s Nico Rosberg and 11 ahead of Vitaly Petrov. Finally, the ninth and tenth places are occupied by Nick Hiedfeld and Michael Schumacher who have earned 30 and 26 points respectively. concerning the team-table, Red Bull are top of the standings with 295 points, 89 ahead of McLaren, the Austrians being likely to end the term first for the second time in a row. Ferrari are third with 129 points, Renault fourth with 61 and Mercedes fifth with 58 points.
