facebook-vs-google+
If Google+ wants to dethrone Facebook, it will have to steal its most large audience: the college students. These consumers are the providers of 90% of multimedia messages and status updates.
Google+ is a newly created social network in trial mode that is currently the source of some intrigue among college students because of some unique features like the group video chat. Many also consider that because of the more control users have on their activity and control a big concern related to security has finally been provided with a solution. This is the feature that it’s the biggest difference between Google+ and Facebook or Tweeter which many consider to be more like a marketing tool rather than a social network by definition.
The hardest task for Google+ will be to convince people to leave the social networks they have already created on Facebook. Many believe that is hard to leave a social network that you’ve enjoyed building in years, just for one or two extra features. This trial version of Google+ is now available only for persons that are at least 18 years old. The officials don’t want to allow the access of younger users because the safety features that will keep these users away from contents not recommended for their age aren’t yet in place.
Funny or not, the most loyal Google+ user is Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook. On Google+ he has more than 44,000 followers and 70 persons added to his Circles. Not even the founders of Google+ (Larry Page and Sergey Bring) have so many followers (only a few thousands) and there’s no person added in their Circles.
But no matter the problems, Google+ is ready to face its competitors and has a “secret” weapon: Ubiquity. The impressive network created by Google mostly for students is certainly going to win a battle or two. But in the end the one who matters is the one who wins the war. From one point of view Google seems to have it all working in its favor, because it has managed to attract many people with its products. Search boxes or Android devices, they all have helped create the brand Google is today. Maybe it would be fun to try out Google+. Let me know if it gets you interested.
