New York faced no difficulty in beating Seattle last night at the Safeco Field where the East leaders crashed the hosts 9-3 to leave Red Sox four gamesback behind them.
Yankees, who have won their second straight game this week, were first given the lead in the third inning when Jeter grounded out to third for Garnder’s opener. Seattle found the strength to even the situation right afterwards as Suzuki singled to right for Ryan’s leveler in what was hosts’ only momentum in Seattle.
New York would provide an eight point run starting with the fourth term. Teixeira opened it with a 400 foot homerun, while Cano made it 3-1 right afterwards, following Chavez’s sacrifice fly. Furthermore, Gardner doubled to left for Swisher’s fourth point of the meeting. Things got much worse and clearer when Dickerson, who hit a 376 foot homerun, and the same Gardner propelled their side five points atop in the same inning.
The fifth and sixth terms went scoreless for both sides, the victory becoming just a matter of time for the visitors who ended their rally in the seventh term through Jeter and Granderson who made it 9-1 after Cano doubled to left. The last word belonged to Seattle who scored a couple of more consolation points in the next inning through Olivo, who hit a 414 foot homerun, and Smoak.
“They’ve got a pretty good lineup. You have to respect that and make good pitches. In that (fourth) inning, I just made a couple mistakes and got hit,” said Hernandez after the meeting.
