Pervak eases through in Tashkent
Top seed Ksenia Pervak has made a straight set progress at the Tashkent Open in Uzbekistan after easing past Galina Voskoboeva 6-2, 7-5 in the first round. Next up for the Russian is host Sabina Sharipova who is also following a two set win against Eirini Georgatou.
Pervak broke the Kazak three times after creating six chances and did not allow her opponent to build a break streak until the end. The Russian needed one hour and a half to make the progress , finishing the game with a 66 first serve percentage and a 44 return one.
The main favorite also won 61 percent of total points, compared to her opponent who came up with a 59 first serve percentage, a poor 19 return one, three double faults and a 56 service percentage. The head to head series between the two is led 2-1 though by the world number 82 Voskoboeva who last defeated the 20 year old Pervak at the 2008 Berlin event.
Pervak had previously defeated the 26 year old at this term’s Baku event. She will next meet Sabina Sharipova of Uzbekistan. Sharipova ousted Eirini Georgatou of Greece in two sets 6-4, 6-1, needing one hour and 20 minutes to seal the easy victory.
The Uzbek converted five out of nine break points in front of the Greek who could only break the hosts twice in seven tries. Sharipova finished the clash with a 56 first serve percentage, four double faults and a 57 return percentage, winning at the same time 59 percent of service points.
As for the Greek, Eirini came up with a solid 73 first serve percentage, only to be denied due to a poor 41 return percentage and the loss of five services. She also committed two double faults and won 42 percent of total points.
On the second half of the draw, Romania’s Sorana Cirstea, who has started the event as second seed, beat Bojana Jovanovski in two easy sets 6-3, 6-1. Cirstea, who lacks a title this year, broke her opponent five times managing to save at the same time five out of six break points coming from the opposite side.
She also had a 67 first serve percentage, two aces and a consistent 53 return percentage, compared to the Serb whose showing included a 74 first serve percentage, a 37 return one and four double faults. Jovanovski conceded the victory in one hour and 12 minutes, allowing Cirstea to make the progress.
“Bojana and I had played each other twice, with each of us winning once. It was a tough match, but I was focused and made less unforced errors. I’m glad to have beaten Bojana, who has had a good year so far,” said the Romanian after the clash.
Bojana blamed her poor showing on the US Open as she only left New York a couple of days ago. “I just came here a day ago and to play the first day is a little tough. I was not prepared and felt like I was sleeping in the match,” said the Serb.
Cirstea will next face another Serbian player, Aleksandra Krunic who follows a clear win over Kamilla Farhad whom she thwarted 6-0, 6-1 in the second day. Kruni broke her opponent six times in 12 tries, not allowing her opponent to create any break point. She won the meeting in just under an hour, finishing the clash with a 68 first serve percentage, five aces, a 65 return percentage and a solid 86 service one.
On the other side, Farhad provided a poor performance which included a 14 return percentage, three double faults and a 35 service percentage. Krunic will meet Cirstea for the first time but will start the second round as second favorite.
On the same second half of the table, Alla Kudryavtseva ousted Russian Vesna Dolonts 6-2, 7-5, needing one hour and 37 minutes to secure the second round berth. Alla converted six out of 15 break points in front of her compatriot who could only steal three services from the favorite.
Dolonts threatened with a tie break in the last term, but a late break allowed Kudryavtseva to close the meeting in high style. Alla left the court with a 61 first serve percentage, a 55 return one and three aces, compared to Vesna’s 51 first serve percentage, two double faults, 39 return percentage and two aces.
Alla will next confront another conational, Vitalia Diatchenko who edged Olga Govortsova after a second set scare, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4. The Russian needed three hours to book a spot into the second round, winning the first set at tie break. Govortsova was very close to winning the first set but a late comeback propelled Diatchenko through to a 8-6 lead.
The second set saw the Belarusian level the score with ease thanks to a couple of midway breaks. The Russian managed to grab a break, too, but she failed to stay in touch with a two set win. Diatchenko did manage to set the pace in the last term, though, converting three out of eight break points.
Govortsova won two breaks but conceded the victory at the death. Diatchenko left with a 54 first serve percentage, six break points and a 48 return percentage, compared to her opponent who came up with a 65 first serve percentage, six break points and a similar return efficiency.
Seventh favorite Evgeniya Rodina has made an uneasy progress when the Russian edged Iryna Bremond of France 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 in two hours and three minutes. Rodina broke her opponent seven times in 14 tries and added to her showing a 58 first serve percentage, four aces, five double faults and a 53 return percentage.
On the other side, the French player finished the game with a 52 first serve percentage, four breaks and a 44 return percentage. Rodina will next meet Czech Eva Birnerova who eased past Junri Namigata from Japan 6-4, 6-1 in one hour and 21 minutes. Birnerova converted six out of ten break points, leaving the court with a 69 first serve percentage, four double faults and a 58 return percentage, compared to the Japanese who had a 58 first serve percentage, three double faults and a 42 return percentage.
Fourth seed Anastasija Sevastova and Valeria Savinykh of Russia will also fight for a place into the third round. The Latvian beat Mariya Koryttseva 6-0, 7-6 after one hour and a half which saw the favorite convert six out of 11 break points.
The Ukrainian conceded all her services in the first half but set a much better play in the second term, pushing the set into a breaker. Despite the late momentum, Koryttseva lost the breaker at one due to a poor receiving performance.
Sevastova finished the clash with a 58 first serve percentage and a 58 return one, while the Ukrainian left with three breaks, nine double faults, a 63 first serve percentage and a 45 return one. Sevastova’s next opponent Valeria Savinykh follows a 6-4, 6-3 win against Lesia Tsurenko.
The Russian beat the Ukrainian in one hour and 23 minutes, breaking her six times in 11 tries. She also saved six out of ten break points coming form the opposite side, leaving the court with a 59 return percentage. As for Tsurenko, she came up with a 59 first serve percentage, seven double faults and a 46 return percentage.
On the first half of the draw, Akgul Amanmuradova is to meet Urszula Radwanska in the second term. The host stunned eighth favorite Aravane Rezai in two sets 6-4, 6-3 in one hour and ten minutes. Amanmuradova broke her opponent twice and managed to save three break points from Rezai who was unable to set the pace against the crowd favorite.
The Uzbek won 72 percent of first serve balls, finishing the game with a 42 return percentage and seven aces, while Rezai had a 47 first serve percentage, four aces and a poor 23 return percentage. Amanmuradova will next meet Urszula Radwanksa who follows an easy win against qualifier Jana Cepelova from Slovakia whom she defeated 6-1, 6-4.
Radwanska converted six out of 13 break points, winning at the same time 71 percent of first serve points, 55 of return one and 60 of service points. Cepelova finished her showing with a 86 first serve percentage, a 40 return one and committed five double faults.
Misaki Doi edged Mandy Minella of Luxemburg 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in the first round, needing two hours and 11 minutes to make the progress. The Japanese broke her opponent six times in 17 tries but her performance also included a solid 61 first serve percentage, a 47 receiving one and three aces, compared to Minella’s 56 first serve percentage and 40 return one.
Doi is to meet third seed Eleni Daniilidou who eased past Pauline Parmentier of France 7-5, 6-1. The Greek needed one hour and a half to oust the French who conceded four services and only broke her opponent once.
Daniilidou came up with a 64 first serve percentage, a 49 return one and two double faults, while Parmentier who was very close to pushing the opener into the breaker, had a 72 first serve percentage and a 38 return one.
On of the biggest surprises of the day came from qualifier Victoria Larriere who overcame Zuzana Kucova 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the first term. The French broke her opponent seven times, needing one hour and 43 minutes to eliminate the Slovak who could only convert five out of nine break points.
Larriere’s showing also included a 52 first serve percentage, three aces and a 51 return percentage, compared to her opponent’s 65 first serve percentage, six double faults and a 41 return percentage.
Next up for the French is fifth favorite Magdalena Rybarikova who edged Nigina Abduraimova of Uzbekistan 7-6, 4-6, 6-3. The seeder needed two hours and 50 minutes to make the progress, breaking the host five times in 14 tries.
The Slovak also finished the game with a 50 first serve percentage, a 43 return one and five aces, while the Uzbek had a 54 first serve percentage, a 38 return one and two double faults.
