FC Barcelona 2-2 last night at the Camp Nou thanks to an early opener from Pato and Thiago Silva’s late sparkle. Pep Guardiola’s side leveled the scored in the first half through Pedro and even took the lead early in the second one through David Villa, only to los the three points in the last minute.
Pato brought the first lead for Rossoneri in the 30th second following a lovely combinative play in the middle. The Brazilian striker picked the ball in Barca’s half to start a long distance drive between two defenders and beat Victor Valdez with a low shot through the keeper’s legs.
AC Milan striker got his second chance just three minutes later, but the Brazilian was blocked at the death by Abidal who rescued his side from a potential disaster. Barca broke back in the 13th minute through Villa whose finish reached the side netting in what should have been a much more difficulty test for keeper Abbiati.
Vam Bommel picked the first yellow card in the 17th minute for a foul on Messi. The Argentine took the responsibility for the set piece forcing Abbiati to give his best for the save. Messi missed another big chance in toe 30th minute, his hot going just wide to his own dismay.
Coach Massimiliano Allegri made the first change early in the 33rd minute when he introduced Massimo Ambrosini for Kevin Prince Boateng. Five minutes later Barca leveled the score through Pedro who converted a tremendous action developed by Messi who beat three marks before feeding the right midfielder in front of the empty net.
Cesc Fabregas replaced Andres Iniesta in the 40th minute following an ugly injury suffered by the Catalans cornerstone. The first half went 1-1 but the game was still open to any result.
Five minutes into the second part Barca won a free kick 25 yards out following Cassano’s foul on Busquets. David Villa took the responsibility for the set piece, thundering it over the wall and top of the right hand corner to make it 2-1 in what was one of the best goals of the night.
Villa then conceded the yellow card for a foul on Nocerino. Nesta saved his side from a third one in the 55th minute when the veteran blocked Messi with an impressive tackle. But the Milan defender was shown a yellow two minutes later for a trip on the same Argentine whom he could not stop.
Milan made a second substitution in the 60th minute as Allegri replaced Cassano with Urby Emanuelson. Five minutes later, Guardila introduced Carles Puyol for Seydou Keita. Dani Alves also picked a yellow card in the 70th minute for a tough trip on Ambrosini.
With ten minutes left Van Bommel departed for newly arrived Alberto Aquilani who joined AC Milan this summer. Barca also made a third change with five minutes left, introducing Afellay for screamer scorer Villa. But the unexpected was yet to come for the hosts who leveled the score in the last minute.
Milan won a corner on the right Seedorf delivered straight in the middle of the box from where Thiago Silva fired a perfect header past flying Valdez to bring the Italians a very precious point on European champions’ stadium.
Said coach Allegri after the draw: “This result is a draw. Nothing more, nothing less. It was an important game and we were in top physical condition. We played well at the beginning and we also had the chance to go 2-0 up. We were also good because we gave them little or nothing. I think 2-2 is a nice prize.”
The same day BATE Borisov drew Viktoria Plzen 1-1 away as all the group H teams have one point at the moment. Milan will next host the Czech champions on September 28, while the Catalans make the trip to Borisov the same day.
