"Landep News"
With rapper Bekah graduating from the group to pursue a career as a designer in Hawaii, the eight remaining members of After School have split up into two sub-units for simultaneous promotions of their single albums. In the racy Red corner are Ka-hi, Jung-ah, UEE, and Nana with the tracks “In the Night Sky” and “Hollywood.” In the bubbly Blue corner are Raina, Lizzy, Joo-yeon, and E-young with the songs “Lady” and “Wonder Boy.”
The divisions seem a little unbalanced, but when it comes down to it, the groups make sense. I feel After School Red kind of has an unfair advantage because they have the most popular members and the strongest performance-wise, while the members of After School Blue are the ones that couldn’t pull off sexy that convincingly. Yet, the girls of AS Blue are undeniably the members who best pull off the youthful, cute image. In fact, although the whole saccharine act is overplayed, AS Blue seem to have a better handle on their image than AS Red, but it may just be the fault of AS Red’s stylists.
With most girl groups either being sexy or cute, After School splitting off to do both at the same time is a smart, interesting move by Pledis Entertainment. They get double the exposure in half the time. People can pick one or the other, and Playgirlz will probably support both.
Now follows the videos. Poll at the bottom.
After School Blue have been accused of “plagiarizing” Fin.K.L‘s “Forever Love“ with their song “Wonder Boy.” The word “plagiarism” gets tossed out really easily in the KPOP music scene, but Pledis has come out to say that they meant this to be an homage to the iconic girl group, which sounds very plausible. There are also rumblings that the “After School Boys,” the new yet-to-be-named Pledis boy group debuting by the end of the year, were featured in this MV, but I can’t really tell.
After School Red has yet to release a full MV for “In a Night Sky,” so here’s the teaser.
