Today, after 120 years, researchers have discovered the fossils of the said lizard. But that is not all. Inside of the lizard, the researchers found the 15 embryos, fully developed. The fossils were discovered somewhere in China and it is the oldest known example of such a thing. Lizards and other reptiles usually lay eggs; they do not bear them inside them. “This is the oldest record of live-bearing in a lizard and the first record of live-bearing (viviparity) in a tetrapod that is not a specialist swimmer,” study researcher Susan Evens said. She went on saying that showed that pre-adaptations to viviparity must have happened early in this particular group.

The fossils found seem to have belonged to a lizard in a species called Yabeinosaurus. According to the researchers, this type of species live during the period called Cretaceous, the same period the dinosaurs were trotting the Earth. The researchers also said that they had more examples of such fossils belonging to lizards from back to the Cretaceous, but each and every one of them reveals different thi
