United States President Barack Obama is scheduled to attend the ASEAN Summit in Bali in September 2011. Obama’s arrival is hoped to bring a positive image for Bali and Indonesia in general in particular after the 2002 Bali bombing.
“The arrival of President Obama is hoped to foster the trust of the international community regarding the security aspects of Indonesia and especially Bali’s readiness to hold a world-class event,” said a member of Commission IV DPRD Bali, Tjokorda Raka Kerthyasa, in Denpasar, on Tuesday (12/07/2011).
According to Kerthyasa, this visit will have a very positive impact not only great for tourism in Bali, but also for Indonesia. That will mean Indonesian security has been acknowledged and Bali is considered a very special place.
Kerthyasa hoped that this trust which has not come easy is not wasted. Bali itself has started the long process to gain the trust of international community since sometimes back and Obama’s arrival will certainly further catapulted the name of Bali in the international world.
“So, because of that we should really keep that trust. How do we keep it, of course, by maintaining the balance of nature and naturalism, customs and culture of Bali which has been a magnet for tourism,” said Kerthayasa.
Kerthyasa also said that the other effects hoped of Obama’s arrival are the growth of tourism and the economy of Bali. Both these aspects will improve the lives of the people of Bali. “Many of the positive impact brought about by the arrival of Obama. For example, when Julia Robert’s visited Bali, the international world just got to know more about Bali, particularly Ubud. Moreover, President Obama visit stimulate the economy of Bali,” said Kerthayasa who is also well known in Puri Ubud community.
President Obama has been scheduled visit to Bali twice before. However, he failed to set foot on the island for security reasons. This time, the public Bali wished Obama managed to actually come to Bali.
