Manchester City star Edin Dzeko opened the score for Bosnia and Nasri leveled the situation from penalty with ten minutes left in the game. France were the first to put pressure on the Bosnian goal in the ninth minute when striker Remy beat the offside trap only to be denied by the keeper after a one to one action. Bosnia broke back immediately through Spahic whose dangerous contact with a free kick ball went just wide.
The hosts, who dominated the first half of the first part, got yet another big chance two minutes later. Misimovic was perfectly picked in good position but his volley reached the stands to the dismay of coach Safet Susic whose side was chasing the play off spot.
The most dangerous chance of the first half came in the 23rd minute when France hit the post through the same Remy for whom the first goal seemed to be just a matter of time. On the counter attack, Bosnia missed a golden chance through Dzeko whose finish went just wide of the target.
The first goal came with five minutes left in the first part and it was the same City star to break through on the Stade de France. The forwarder created a personal action the finish of which saw him both turn his mark on the edge of the box and shoot it into the far post past keeper Lloris. Bosnia were top of the group D and already qualified for the Euro 2012.
The half time went 1-0 and Laurent Blanc’s side were condemned to score at least once to secure the first position in the group. Bosnia made the first chance just one minute into the next round as keeper Hasigic was replaced by Begovic. Spahic then received his first yellow card for a shy challenge on Menez. Bosnia won a dangerous free kick in the 58th minute but Misomovic’s delivery was held by the keeper with some difficulty.
France then won a couple of corners which Bosnia cleared very easily. Bosnia got yet another free kick in the 65th minute. Misimovic took the responsibility for it but Dzeko’s head contact failed to trouble the French keeper. The two sides conceded a couple of more yellow cards in the 68th minute when Evra was cautioned for a trip on Maletic and Pandza took down Menez in what could have been a very dangerous finish.
Newly introduced Begovic saved his side from a potential disaster in the 71st minute when Nasri delivered a pretty tricky free kick which the keeper saved at the death. Dzeko the finished an individual build up with a powerful and well placed shot the same Lloris denied. Two minutes later, a controversial action saw Spahic commit a foul on the edge of the box and the referee point the white spot despite visitors’ claims whose saw the foul outside the box.
Nasri converted the penalty and put France top of the group with a superb penalty down the bottom. France then introduced Diarra for Remy as the hosts were eight minutes from qualification. Bosnia struggled to come from behind but their incoherent actions brought no more goals. But on the contrary, France took advantage of their chaos to edge a second goal in the 87th minute when Nasri was allowed to start a long distance run.
Unfortunately, the Manchester City playmaker was denied by Begovic to give his side yet another chance to break. The end of the game showed Bosnia failing to convert a dangerous corner won by Dzeko. Papac failed to contact the ball properly as France escaped the danger.
Said coach Blanc after the game: “I was shocked by our mistakes, even though Bosnia created a lot of problems for us. When you play with the handbrake on, you make a lot of mistakes and you are dominated. That’s what happened in the first half… What I liked was the players’ reaction. If they had not reacted tonight, we would be talking about the playoffs.”
Laurent Blanc’s side won the group with 21 points, having Bosnia just one point behind them. Romania finished the preliminaries third with 14 points, while Belarus came fourth with 13. Albania and Luxembourg only won nine and four points respectively.
