The royal house of the Great Britain is costing the taxpayers more money than it did last year, in spite of the efforts to reduce expenditures to adjust them to the trend in the entire British economy.
The Queen of England receives $19.1 dollar per year to maintain the properties of the royal house, and more money is needed, even though projects including roof repairs, upgrading heating system, and refurbishing state rooms have been postponed and all funds have been channeled towards maintaining the Buckingham Palace.
The royal treasurer Alan Reid said the queen was perfectly aware that the expenditures should be adjusted to match the shortages of the economy, but reminded that continuing to reduce costs for maintenance could only have long-term negative results on the royal estates’ condition.
Officials have maintained that though the profits of the royal estates have been used to counter costs, extra funds would be needed in due time.
Last year the royal house reduced the expenditures by $2.9 million, but money will be needed to maintain Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace.
The royal house also explained that the increase in travel costs from $4.8 million to $9.6 million is due to the a change in the air transport leasing arrangement.
The figures do not cover the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, because it was paid by the couple’s families, except for security, which was covered from the public money.
