Organizers of the humanitarian aid flotilla that is expected to leave the shores of Greece for Gaza Strip accuse Israel of taking advantage of the economic situation of Greece and pressuring it to keep the vessels from leaving Greek national waters for Gaza.
The accusation was made after the Canadian ship Tahrir was returned by the Greek coast guard, and was broadcasted on Israel national radio on Tuesday.
The Jewish-Canadian activist Dilan Kenner said that Greece went as far as breaking the human rights while stopping Tahrir, because it is under intense economic pressure from Israel.
Kenner explained that the Greek Coast Guard intercepted Tahrir fifteen minutes after its departure, and towed it to Cyprus, which, in his opinion, is a clear act of trespassing the Greeks had no right to do.
Kenner accused that by this pressure, Israel practically expanded the Gaza blockade all the way to the Greek ports, and that this was beginning to affect the rights of the people living outside the Strip.
Jerusalem Post reports the Jewish-Canadian human rights activist to have said on radio that this should preoccupy the Jewish Canadians and the people all over the world.
The interception by Greek Coast Guard was unjustified, and the activists tried to prevent it by non-violent means. This is the second time in three days that the Greek authorities block the vessels of the flotilla in their national waters.
