Alex Sanchez is one step from signing the European champions after both FC Barcelona and Udinese confirmed to have agreed on the 27 million pound-fee.
Although Sanchez is in Argentina for the Copa America championship, the two sides managed to end the negotiations which are believed to be favorable. The 22-year-old striker is now expected to join David Villa, Messi and Pedro in Barca’s attack as he is to spit with the Italians after five years. Sanchez scored 20 goals for Udinese with which he gathered 95 selections. A former Colo-Colo and River Plate player, Sanchez is to join his fourth team of career, having also played for Cobreloa, his first side.
Sanchez started his career with Cobreola for which he scored 19 goals in 39 games. Winner of two Apertura honors, an South American Supercup and the Primera Division de Argentina, the youngster is now very close to set new heights with the Catalans who both defended the title this past term and won the UEFA Champions League trophy.
Udinese finished the season with 66 points, four behind Napoli who have already qualified for the UCL group stage. The Italians instead will have to play a Play-off round before hunting the same group stage. Quinque Pina, representative of Udinese, said: “Both clubs have the utmost interest to finalise the transfer. The signing will be £27m plus variables – he prefers to play in Spain.” Barca are now one more big move left Cesc Fabregas, who is very likely though to stay at Arsenal, at least this is what Arsene Wenger insists on.
The French manager looked unhappy with Catalans’ lack of respect, but especially Xabi’s who reveled that Fabregas still suffers from not being able to return to Camp Nou. “I spoke to Cesc in Ibiza and he said he was suffering, because he really wants to come. It’s what he most wants, he’s done everything he can to come and wants Arsenal to let him go.”
Fabregas, who has scored 35 goals in 212 games with the Gunners, is still under contract with the English side, who are keen to keep the 24-year-old Spaniard who joined the Emirates side back in 2003. Arsenal failed to clinch the title this term, finishing the season fourth, well behind Chelsea and Manchester City. Wenger’s side will play though into the UEFA Champions League play-off round.
Arsenal already lost Gael Clichy, who signed City, and are also likely to lose Samir Nasri who also expressed his desire to part with the Gunners.
