Hradecka packs from Austria
Third favorite Hradecka met compatriot Sandra Zahlavova in the first day but suffered a 5-7, 3-6 defeat after conceding a couple of crucial break points in both the opener and second term. Next up for Zahlavova is Maria Jose Martinez who has also made a straight-set progress after edging Paula Ormaechea of Argentina 7-6, 7-6. Iveta Benesova packed from Austria after abandoning the Nikola Hofmanova clash at 5-7, 2-3 down.
The Austrian will next play unseeded Dia Evtimova of Bulgaria who eased past Melanie Klaffner 6-1, 6-0 in the debut. On the same first half of the draw, Petra Martic is to meet Patricia Mayr Achleitner of Austria. The Croatian has been favored by a BYE in the opening day, while her next opponent stunned Lourdes Dominguez 6-0, 7-6.
Ksenia Pervak and Nastja Kolar will also fight for a quarter final spot. The Slovenian player eased past Alla Kudryavtseva 6-1, 6-1, but will have some hard times against Alize Conret’s killer who beat the French 7-6, 6-2. Concerning the second half of the table, one of the main favorites Kateryna Bondarenko has set a Johanna Larsson clash after ousting Nuria Llagostera 6-0, 6-4 in the first round. Her next opponent also follows a two-set win over Jarmila Gajdosova whom the Swede eliminated 6-4, 6-2.
Carla Suarez of Spain is to meet her compatriot Arantxa Parra in the second round after she upset Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 7-6, 6-2. Finally, two other first term meetings are about to take place. Romania’s Simona Halep is to make her Austrian debut against Sybille Bammer, while Alona Bondarenko plays Yvonne Meusburger in the first term.
