"Landep News"
Bladder cancer is rather “famous” among people, as it affects about 50,000 men and 16,000 women a year all around the world. The bad news is that most of these people do not receive proper treatment for their cancer and they are at high risk of experiencing a recurrence of the cancer at any given time. According to a new study, only o person out of 4,545 has received proper treatment for bladder cancer. The treatment was in accord with the guidelines set by the American Urological Association (AUA) and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN).
For those people who do not receive proper treatment, the cancer may be treated, but the risks of the patients to experience a recurrence are very high and that can be very dangerous, as during recurrence, the cancer can spread to other organs and it can end up by being fatal. As said, people receive some kind of treatment, but if the treatment is not according to the guidelines set by the AUA and NCCN, than it is not good. According to the study author, Dr. Karim Chamie, the treatment is either done right or it may as well not be done at all, because the effects of improper treatments are equal to those of no treatments at all.
The AUA and NCCN have requested some guidelines to be followed when it came to bladder cancer and they are as follow. First, the patients should get an injection of chemotherapy drugs in order to kill all the cancer cells in the bladder. Then, and intense follow-up surveillance should be done in order to see if the patients are doing well. Then, after the chemotherapy drug injection, the patients should follow a 6-week Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) treatment, which helps the body fight better the bladder cancer. Although all these things, along with other which must be done in the fight against bladder cancer, can be done with ease, it seems that socioeconomic status or backgrounds or even ethnicity have nothing to do with the fact that the treatment is improperly done. Actually, it is about how doctors treat their cancer patients and it seems that most of them are a bit lazy when it comes to providing proper treatment for bladder cancer.
Most researchers got to the conclusion the bar set by these guidelines are so high that everyone has failed into complying them. Furthermore, there must be made more studies in order to see the life expectancy of people who suffer from bladder cancer and also other things related to this type of disease. The bottom line of the study is that people who suffer from bladder cancer should be helped one way or another and if the treatment is not applied properly, it should not be applied at all.
