West Nusa Tenggara Police is investigating the alleged terror network in Khalifah Umar ibn al-Khattab Islamic boarding school in Samolo, District Bolo, Bima, following the discovery of some explosives and suspicious items during a raid on Wednesday (07/13/2011).

“(We are) still exploring to prove the indication of terrorism,” said West Nusa Tenggara Police Head of Public Relations Society and Information Lalu Wirajaya in Mataram one day after the raid

He said the Joint Special Task Force conducting the raid on Wednesday at around 15.30 pm. Before the raid, the Police coordinated with elements of local government, the board of the Indonesian Ulema Council and Islamic organizations.

This drastic action came after the police failed to enter the boarding school for more than two days because prevented by officials and students some of which brandishing sharp weapons.

“When raided, those officials and students had left the school so that officers did not find anyone in the area” he said.

In that raid the Police found nine Molotov cocktails that are assembled using bottles, 30 sticks of arrows, two units of computer (CPU), and a printer, air gun, a sword, machete, an ax, one mobile phone , a case of the Koran, and a piece of shirt / vest Anshory Taudid Jamaat army uniforms .

Officers also found dozens pieces of VCDs containing instruction about jihad and bomb making materials such as wires, solder, and lighters.

Wiraja also confirmed that before the raid, Police officers first had to detonate two homemade bombs which were placed under the bridge connecting the road with it school area.

“Today Police officers are still securing the school after officials searched the school caretaker home, place where the student learn, and the student lodge looking for evidence,” he said.

This case started on Monday (11/07/2011) at around 15:30 pm when an explosion suspected to have come from an improvised explosive device in one of the school room killed one of the school caretakers named Firdaus. The Police who were investigating the incident became suspicious when family members tried to prevent the police from examining the body.

Police officer could not process the blast scene because the rest of school caretakers were preventing officers from entering the area. From information gathered later on, the Police learn that there are possibly explosives and numerous firearms stocked the school. The Police raid the school two days after the incident.

The Police record shows that Umar bin Khattab Islamic school was established by Ustadz Abrori (son of Ustadz Ali) in 2003 and has 49 students, including Firdaus who was killed in the blast, and Sa’ban Abdurrahman who currently being questioned for his involvement in the killing of Bolo Police Brigadier Rokhmat, June 30.

Umar ibn Khattab Foundation is chaired by Muhammad and Muhajidul Haq as the secretary of the foundation.
