Rodrick Shonte Dantzler
A horrific act took place in Michigan where a gunman broke into two homes and opened fire on the residents killing 7 people, including 2 children.
Afterwards he lead the police on a perilous high speed chase through the city and took three hostages. The whole standoff ended when he refused to surrender and committed suicide by putting the gun to his head. The three hostages were unharmed stated Grand Rapids authorities.
Authorities failed to establish a motive for the suspect. The 34 year old Rodrick Shonte Dantzler ruthlessly killed 7 people, and two of them were his own daughter and a former girlfriend. How could he? How is this possible? The police could not find out any reasons since there has been a big period of time since Shonte  had a relationship with the ex girlfriend.
The manhunt began when the police found four bodies in one home and three more in another house across town. The police believes that Dantzler had prior relationships with people from both houses, and there had been some difficulties.
After the bodies were discovered, Dantzler was involved in a chase with the police, he crashed the car after crossing city center and managed to take three hostages. There were dozens of officers involved in the operation, they managed to surround the location where Dantzler was keeping the hostages and closed a nearby interstate highway.
Records show that Dantzler had been released from prison back in 2005. Back then he was sent to prison for assault. A prison system spokesman stated that Dantzler has not been under any form of supervision since that time.
At a certain point in the chase, Shonte crossed the wide grassy median on the road and drove a considerable distance on the wrong way. After him were more than a dozen squad cars on pursuit. Police Chief Belk stated that the suspect crashed the vehicle when he collided with a wooden area on the highway. The road had to be closed for several hours after that.
During the chase Dantzler opened fire on the police and two people were shot. Fortunately their wounds were considered superficial and they were treated and safely out of harm’s way. Belk described one of the attacks as “road rage” since the suspect opened fire through the vehicle’s rear window.
The names of the dead were not released pending investigation. When will the names be released?
