Casey Anthony
Casey Anthony was pronounced not guilty for killing her own daughter, has been prosecuted with the crime of lying to the investigators, and was sentenced to four years in prison. Yet she will be released on July 17th after getting credit for the time she served.
Her case sent an electrifying surge throughout the country and, thus giving free reign to all kinds of accusations towards the young mother: that she cared very little for her child, being “occupied” with bars and clubs.
Sources could not get a clear idea from, Anthony concerning her heading after realease. She lived in Orange County Florida with her parents, before was arrested in 2008 for taking a hand in her 2 year old daughter’s death. A major part of her trial defense strategy was that she had suffered much abuse from her father, and that she had a dysfunctional family.
Anthony was fined $1000 and got the harshest punishment of 4 years in prison, for lying to the investigators during the investigation on her daughter’s disappearance and death. Anthony didn’t show any signs of surprise while her sentence was read, but, before the session started, she was smiling and discussing with her layers.
The hearing took place at the Orange County Courthouse, there were some protesters outside that raged against Anthony’s acquittal for murder charges. One of the sigs said “Arrest the jury”. Isn’t that fair?
Her lawyers stated that she has received a high number of death threats after she was found not guilty on Tuesday for the serious crime of killing her daughter.
The four counts of lying, for what Anthony was convicted, consisted in Anthony’s affirmation that her daughter has disappeared, that she claimed to work at Universal Studios, which she didn’t, that Caylee (her daughter) was left under the supervision of a babysitter, when no baby sitter was there, and finally she claimed that her daughter has contacted her via telephone the day she disappeared and was reported as missing.
Anthony’s lawyers tried to combine all those charges into one singular criminal act, but Judge Belvin Perry denied it.
During the six week trial prosecutors accused Anthony for exposing her daughter to chloroform rendering her unconscious, and putting duct tape on her mouth and nose in order to suffocate her.
The defense claims that Caylee had drowned by accident in the swimming pool, and after finding her dead, her grandfather concealed her death. Of course, Caylee’s grandfather George denied it during testimony.
The jury, that has been present throughout the whole case, reached the decision of absolving her of the charges of murder and child abuse in less than half a day. If convicted Anthony would be face to face with a death sentence. How is it possible to absolve someone of such a crime?
