Brewers have gone 3.5 ahead of their main followers Cardinals in the Central after beating St. Louis 6-2 on Monday night at the Miller Park. Milwaukee were led 0-2 until the fifth term, but suddenly things started to go from bad to worse for the visitors.
Holliday opened the meeting with a 364 foot homerun, being flowed by Furcal who double the lead immediately. That also remained the only momentum for the Cardinals who would concede six points in a row and lose a crucial game which could have kept them in touch with the leading position in the Central. The next three innings went scoreless for both sides, while the fifth one saw the hosts build a consistent rally which eventually brought them an easy win.
Lucroy singled to left in the fifth term as Betancourt cut the deficit to one point with McGehee getting to third. Hart then singled to center, allowing the same McGehee even the situation and resuscitate his side. Milwaukee scored three more point within the same inning through Lucroy, Greinke and Hart after Morgan doubled to deep center, putting their side three points ahead of the losing pace St. Louis which could only witness their own ruining.
The sixth term also went scoreless, but the seventh one highlighted Morgan give his side a comprehensive win after Braun doubled to center. “Everything worked out. You can’t explain why things fell apart, basically, for them and go well for us,” said a delighted Ron Roenicke, Brewers’ manager. Fielder Hart also looked satisfied with the showing, claiming that “we feel like we have that extra confidence here, but for whatever reason the fans get so behind us and we feel like we’re never out of anything. Winning the first one is huge. It gives us a little momentum going forward.”
Brewers are top spot with a .555 record which features 61 wins and 49 losses, the victory over St. Louis being their seventh in a row, eighth in the past ten games and 40th at home. On the other side, Cardinals sit second in the same Conference with a .523 record which features 57 wins and 52 defeats, the loss to the leaders being their second in a row, fifth in the past ten games and 28th on the road where they have gone .500 so far this season.
Colorado Rockies 3 – 4 Philadelphia Phillies
Phillies have extended their winning streak to four successes after edging Rockies on Monday night at the Coors Field where the leaders grabbed a late win thanks to Victorino’s homer hit in the first extra-inning. The first inning went scoreless for both sides, while the second one saw Colorado take a two point lead through Smith, who fired a 429 foot homerun, and Wigginton who followed him right afterwards.
The next four terms went clean for the two teams while the seventh one saw Phillies cut the deficit to one point through Pence who scored the first one after Ibanez doubled to center. Rockies broke back immediately through Iannetta who fired a 435 foot homerun as the hosts were very close to wining the meeting.
But a late homerun fired by Mayberry and Ruiz pushed the game into extra-term which reserved a big surprise. Colorado failed to score one more point as they conceded the winner in the tenth round when Victorino hit a 401 foot for a big win.
Philadelphia are top spot in the East with a .639 record which incorporates 69 wins and 39 losses, the victory over Colorado being their seventh in the past ten games and 28th on the road. As for Rockies, they remain third in the West, nine gamesback behind Arizona, with a .550 record featuring 60 wins and 49 defeats, the loss to the leaders being their second in a row, sixth in the past ten games and 27th at home where they have just switched negative (26-27).
San Diego Padres 2 – 6 Los Angeles Dodgers
Dodgers picked a clear win on Monday at the Petco Park were the visitors eased past bottom Padres despite being led 0-1 in the first term. Guzman singled to center as Maybin brought the first and only lead for San Diego in the first round. Dodgers broke back in the second term through Rivera who evened the situation after Loney hit a sacrifice fly to center.
The third term went scoreless for the two sides but from then on it was all about Los Angeles who provided a three point rally spread on two innings, fourth and fifth. Barajas singled to left center as Kemp brought the first advantage for his side in the fourth, while Gordon singled into fielder’s choice to pitcher for Carroll’s third one.
Finally, Blake hit a sacrifice fly to left as Kershaw ended the rally after making it 4-2 with Gordon getting to third. The sixth round also went scoreless while the seventh one brought the hosts a second and last consolation point as Hudson fired a 415 foot homerun. Dodgers finished the game in high style as Ethier and Kemp gave their team a well deserved victory in the eighth, Los Angeles’ 21st on the road.
Dodgers remain three gamesback ahead of the bottom Padres, with a .454 record which includes 49 wins and 59 defeats, the victory over San Diego being their sixth in the past ten games. On the other side, Padres lie foot of the table, 14.5 behind leaders Giants, with a .427 poor percentage which features 47 wins and 63 losses, the defeat to Dodgers being their seventh in the past ten games and 35th at home.
San Francisco Giants 2 – 5 Arizona Diamondbacks
Arizona grabbed a sweet revenge over the leaders when they defeated Giants on Monday at the AT&T Park where the hosts were unable to preserve a minimal advantage until the end. Giants first got into the lead early in the first term after Ross fired a 402 foot homerun, that being their only momentum of the meeting.
The next four terms went scoreless for both sides as San Francisco looked the main favorites for the victory. But a sixth term rally propelled the visitors four points ahead of the leaders who conceded five points in a row. Montero singled to right allowing Upton to level the score with Young getting to second. Roberts then singled to left as the same Young brought the first advantage for D-backs.
Montero extended the lead to two points when he made it 3-1 following Parra’s single to right. Finally, Roberts and the same Parra ended the midway session with a 5-1 comprehensive lead the Backs preserved until the seventh term. Giants could only score a second point through Huff who hit a 381 foot homerun in the seventh.
Arizona are now just one gameback behind San Francisco in the West, with a .550 percentage including 60 wins and 49 losses, the victory from AT&T being their third in a row, seventh in the past ten games and 31st on the road. As for Giants, they remain top spot with a .560 record incorporating 61 wins and 48 losses, the defeat to D-back being their fourth in a row, sixth in the past ten games and 19th at home.
