Santos reject yet another bid from Real
Jose Mourinho’s side are vying FC Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City for the 19-year-old, who is to stay at least six more months with his current side in order to celebrate club’s centenary in 2012. Neymar, who has a huge release clause, is likely though to join the Santiago Bernabeu side which is top of his wishlist, according to his own words. But things will become much more complicated for the Spanish champions if the transfer fails, taking into account that the Special One needs yet another solid forwarder in front in order to become more competitive against rivals Barca whom they only defeated once last season, in the Copa del Rey final.
Said Ribeiro: “It is the same proposal, we had the deadline to respond until the end of the month, and I had already indicated that the answer would be ‘no’ and I will make it formal on Monday. They offered two choices: take him now or later, but we do not want it.” Player’s agent Wagner Ribeiro went even further to declare that he is fighting to keep the player at Santos for another entire season, something which is less likely to happen, given player’s desire to switch on La Liga soon as possible.
Real have Karim Benzema, Gonzalez Higuain, Ronaldo in front, but he is in need of a couple of more strikers with Emmanuel Adebayor and Neymar on his wishlist. Unfortunately, the Togolese has also become less likely to sign a full time job with his former side for which he played six months as a loan and for which he managed to score eight goals.
Adebayor is still a Manchester City player, but is also hunted by Tottenham Hotspur who are believed to have made an offer for the Eastlands side. Chelsea are among the main favorites for the Neymar list, but the English side had only looked willing to pay the Brazilians more than $60 million, without making any clear bid for him.
The Blues have not made a big name move so far this window, having only given three extensions to Bertrand, Josh McEachren and Didier Drogba, the latter being expected to stay at least one more year with the Stamford Bridge side. Finally, free spending City are also interested in Neymar’s services, though the player is less likely to join a Premier League side because of the ‘British weather’ as declared at one point.
Neymar has scored 30 goals in 66 games for Santos with which he has won two Campeonato Paulista, a Brazilian Cup as well as this term’s Copa Libertadores. He also helped the club join the FIFA Club World Cup competition within which the Brazilians will play European champions FC Barcelona, and which is scheduled to take place between December 8 – 18 in Japan.
Concerning his individual awards, Neymar is winner of the Best Player of Campeonato Paulista, Golden Boot as well as of the Best Paulista Forward in 2010 and 2011.
