Corinthians Withdraw Bid For Tevez
Tevez unlikely to sign Corinthians
Carlos Tevez is no longer likely to join his former side Corinthians after the Brazilians withdrew their offer for the Argentine player who had been very close to make the move abroad from Manchester City.
The Brazilian club has announced that they have pulled out of Tevez’s deal although they had previously confirmed and suggested they would sign the 27-year-old who is keen to leave the Eastaldns side to join his family in South America. “The board of Sport Club Corinthians Paulista officially communicate the impossibility of signing the Argentine striker Carlos Tevez. Aware of the fans’ big dream of having the striker as a Corinthians player again, the board looks forward to signing Tevez in the near future.”
Tevez was very close to split with Roberto Mancini but he is now likely to stay at least one more year with the English side with which he won this term’s FA Cup. City said the Brazilians offered them 35 million pounds for the forwarder, but neither of the two clubs revealed the reason which led to Brazilians’ withdraw. Sources say though that the reason regards the shorter terms City asked for the payments including a 35 million pounds in advance, something which Corinthians couldn’t afford.
Anyway, it remains to be seen whether or when the Argentine will make the return at home. Tevez finished the season with 20 goals, the same as Manchester United Dimitar Berbatov who were the best scorers in Premier League. Overall, Carlos’s mandate with the Blues includes 43 goals and 63 appearances. Manchester City have already made two moves, bringing former Arsenal defender Gael Clichy and Stefan Savic, a Partizan Belgrade revelation, on a four-year deal, each.
The Italian manager has no reason to get worried now about finding a replacement for Tevez. Emmanuel Adebayor is also likely to split with the Eastlands after wide insists from the Togolese who expressed his wish to stay at Real Madrid which he joined earlier this year and for which he scored eight goals in all competitions.
Tevez, who had scored 25 goals in 38 appearances with Corinthians, joined City back in 2009 after departing from the arch rivals United with whom he had spent two years. He helped Mancini’s side to reach their first UEFA Champions League group stage after a long-term wait as City finished the term third with 71 points, the same as former defending champions Chelsea, who lost the title in front of United.
Manchester City are also interested in Sergio Aguero’s services. The Atletico Madrid playmaker is likely to part with the Spaniards after a successful season which brought him 20 goals on the Calderon. Although the 23-year-old’s agent had declared at one point the player could sign Juventus, it is today that City are among the main candidates for his services. Real Madrid and Chelsea are also trying to bring the player on their sides, but neither of the two have made any offer yet.
