David Cameron Defends Himself in Parliament in Phone-hacking Scandal
David Cameron in Parliament
The hearing of Rupert and James Murdoch on Tuesday caught the attention of the entire world, especially since the proceedings were interrupted by a little incident as a foam pie was thrown at the world famous media company owner.
Rupert had to respond to questions that have jolted the entire British society for the last weeks, when the phone-hacking scandal broke out in the entire country, engulfing then most of the Western world.
Rupert Murdoch apologized for everything that happened and for the fact that his company violated the intimacy of the people.
He claimed he had no direct knowledge of what was going on, slammed the actions and said that the day was the “most humble day” of his life.
James Murdoch tried to respond now and then in stead of his father, but the lawmakers asking the questions insisted that they be answered by Rupert Murdoch.
Sir Paul Stephenson, London Met Pol commissioner, also took the stand and answered questions to the parliament. He maintained that his decision to resign was made as a result of police implication in the scandal, as many police officers were accused of being on the payroll of the News of the World newspaper.
Stephenson alleged that even the prime minister of the country made a mistake by hiring a former NoW editor as advisor.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister David Cameron told the lawmakers what steps he took in order to contain the crisis sparked by this scandal.
He spoke before the House of Commons, and said he was sorry for the way the decision to hire Andy Coulson was received in the context of this scandal.
The opposition charged that the PM had been warned about the phone-hacking, and that he chose to ignore it.
A former journalist that was found dead at his residence this week was quoted by the lawmakers to have said that Andy Coulson, former editor at NoW, had encouraged him to ignore the situation, when he was PM’s advisor.
Meanwhile, the scandal moved to Australia, where people are asking questions about the future of Australian News Limited, which is part of Murdoch’s empire.
The question is in Australia whether Murdoch remains at the decision table of the corporation after this scandal, and what remains of it, when this tsunami is over.
Murdoch appearance before the British parliament was seen in Australia as a responsibility assumption, and that restored confidence to many in the company.
