It seems that the recipe for a happier marriage relies on the BMI of the partners. Both men and women seem to be more happy when the woman is thinner than the man
It is widely known that all people want to look as good as they can and women, usually, do anything they can in order to look fabulous.
According to a new study, that is not for nothing. A group of researchers at the University of Tennessee seem to be thinking that if the wife is thinner than the husband, the marriage will be great. Well, that is at least at the early stages of marriage. Over a period of four years, the group of researchers led by Andrea Meltzer, followed 169 newlywed couples, 35 years old or younger, in order to see how their relationship advanced. Throughout this period of time, the couples had to fill out some questionnaires related to their satisfaction in relation to their marriage and also, some other questionnaires related to each person’s body-mass index or BMI.
What the researchers observed was that at the beginning both husbands and wives were more satisfied with their relationship if the BMI of the wife was lower than the BMI of the husband. Furthermore, the researchers eliminated from the study things that may affected the outcome of the research, such as depression, marital stress, and also the income level. This study comes to support other study, made about a year ago, which stated the same thing: that both men and women are more satisfied with their relationship if the woman is thinner than the man. However, the study could not determine whether the fact that women are thinner than man or that a healthy life style are the ones responsible for a happy relationship. “The great take-home message from our study is that women of any size can be happy in their relationships with the right partner,” noted Meltzer in the study made last year. “It’s relative weight that matters, not absolute weight. It’s not that they have to be small.”
The overall conclusion of the study made by the researchers at the University of Tennessee was that people should look at couples as a whole and not as individuals and that would make them happier than they every thought they would be. Although the secret of a perfect relationship has not been discovered yet, it seems that the way in which we feel about ourselves, especially about our bodies seems to do a lot when it comes to long-term relationship. The trick is to find the right person for you and when you do, than nothing will stand in the way of you and your total happiness.
