The 48 year old Hollywood actor has announced his music company Infinitum Nihil will provide the soundtrack for the forthcoming ‘The Rum Diary’, Johhny Depp’s latest production.
The music project includes two original songs written by Johnny Depp but also a duet between the star and JJ Holiday and several jazz songs of the 50s and early 60s. Apart from this, the album features ‘Volare’ by Dean Martin and ‘The Mermaid Song’ written by Patti Smith. The soundtrack is jazz labeled and is created by Christopher Young, a 53 year old music composer who has also written songs for blockbusters like Spider Man, Ghost Writer and The Shipping News.
Said Young: “Most of the tracks on the CD were presented as thematic possibilities for the film. This give me a chance to pour out music that has been inside of me all these years. Never in all my years would I think I could put together band to play my music live outside a recording studio. I’m really excited.”
The album will be released at the end of the month and Young has already gathered 20 songs in order to promote the project. As for the movie, it will have its first representation on October 28. The Rum Diary is based on a famous novel written by Hunter Thompson back in 1961.
Paul Kemp, the main character, comes to Puerto Rico in order to work for a local newspaper but the contrast between the island’s culture and the ex-patriots will make his job much harder. The cast also includes Amber Heard who plays Chenault, Giovanni Ribisi as Moberg and Aaron Eckart who plays Sanderson.
The movie is directed by Bruce Robison who has also written Jennifer Eight, Fat Man and Little Boy, Withnail & I and The Killing Fields.
