Rockies needed ten terms to claim a hard fought win against Houston whom they beat 7-6 on Wednesday night at the Coors Field where the meeting was decided in the first extra-inning.
The two sides exchanged four turnarounds as Houston were the first to capture the lead in the opening round. Lee doubled to center as Shuck scored the first point of the meeting. Paredes then singled to right allowing Lee to double the lead, with Bogusevic getting to third. Things got a bit complicated when the visitors were stunned by a four point run set in the same term by a stubborn Colorado who went two points adrift within minutes.
Young Jr. opened the rally after Fowler tripled to center, while Fowler evened the situation right afterwards, following Gonzalez’s singling. Things got much worse fir the away side who conceded c couple of more points when Tulowitzki hit a 359 foot homerun, and Gonzalez scored a fourth one.
But the game was still far from being over. Barmes fired a 452 footer for Astros in the second round, while Corporan leveled the score right afterwards. Furthermore, Houston broke back and grabbed the lead in the third inning when Paredes grounded out to first and Downs made it 5-4.
Despite that, Colorado managed to overturn the result in the fourth term through Gonzalez, who fired a 431 foot homerun, and Young Jr. who made it 6-5. Finally, Bogusevic hit a sacrifice fly to center allowing Downs to score for the second time and even the situation again.
The next four terms went scoreless for both sides, so the game required an extra-round in order to be decided. It belonged the same Rockies who were given the victory through Tulowitzki who scored with Herrera getting to third and Kouzmanoff to second on Rodriguez’s wild pitch.
“We’ve done it before. If one thing’s in our favor, of all the teams, we’ve been here before. We have to use that to our advantage. It’s still a longshot, but if anybody can do it, it’ll be us,” said Tulowitzki after the game.
Colorado have extended their streak to five wins, sitting third in the Wes with a .481 percentage which includes 63 wins and 68 losses, the victory over Houston being their seventh in the past ten games and 35th at home. As for Houston, they lie foot of the table with a .323 poor record including 42 wins and 88 defeats.
