A naval commando intercepted the French-flagged vessel as soon as it received the permission from Benny Gantz, IDF Chief of Staff, and took it over without any resistance from the activists on board.
IDF spokesman stressed out that the interception order was issued after the repeated hailing to which the passengers did not answer, and after the demand not to enter the blockade area.
Israeli Navy trailed the yacht as soon as it reached 50 miles away from Gaza, and they contacted the passengers asking them how they were, if they had any weapons on board, and where they were heading.
A member of the Greek delegation answered the questions, promised IDF they had no weapons on board, and informed that their final destination was the port in Gaza.
IDF officials confirmed that the navy intercepted the yacht and that they warned them that they were approaching a blockade area. They told the activists that no vessel would be allowed to breach the blockade, and that any attempt to do so will result in the interception of the vessel.
The yacht was taken to the Ashdod port, and the activists on board were handed over to the Israeli immigration services.
No passenger was hurt, according to IDF spokesperson, and the IDF offered them beverages after the interception.
The IDF also said that they had been announced on Sunday that no resistance should be expected from those on board.
Free Gaza Movement said that the yacht informed the Greek authorities that they would go to Alexandria, and so they succeeded in leaving the European country.
They added that they changed course in the international waters, which is a legal move.
Israel went to great lengths to make sure any vessel attempts to breach the blockade on Gaza, taking even diplomatic steps to that purpose.
Greece was the country that agreed to detain all the 10 ships in its national waters and not to let them continue their journey toward the Gaza Strip.
Israel wishes to avoid any incident like the one in May last year, when nine Turkish nationals were killed in a similar interception act by the Israeli Navy.
The incident stirred an entire diplomatic storm, and froze the relations between Turkey and Israel.
An international report is expected to be assumed by the United Nations, after it was presented last mid-September, at the request of the U.N. secretary general Ban Ki-moon, who launched an inquiry panel to see what happened on Mavi Marmara.
Turkey demanded a formal apology for the incident, but Israel refused to offer one, saying it will only express sorrow for the loss of human lives.
