More than 2,400 people were arrested on an action that took a week, according to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement report on Tuesday.
In May, an operation called “Cross Check” took place and after this intervention, many individuals were arrested and convicted for crimes such as child abuse, armed robbery, sexual crimes against minors, drug trafficking, forgery, theft, DUI and aggravated assault, according to an ICE report. According to ICE Director John Morton, this operation and its results “underscore ICE’s ongoing focus on arresting those convicted criminal aliens who prey upon our communities, and tracking down fugitives who game our nation’s immigration system.” Furthermore, it seems that most of the people who were arrested during this operation were illegal immigrants who had already had extraordinary orders of deportation. ICE has removed a record number of criminal foreign nationals this year, according to the agency: more than 109,700 in fiscal year 2011.
Illegal immigration is a very difficult issue with which the United States of America has been dealing for a very long time. Moreover, it seems that there are more and more cases of criminal records attributed to people coming illegally in the United States from other countries and the criminal rates have gone up in the past years. Still, U.S. officials are trying hard to reduce the criminal rates by deporting illegal immigrants back to their homes. Illegal immigration to the United States of America refers to the act of foreign nationals violating the U.S. policies regarding immigration and staying in the United States. Furthermore, it seems that more and more of these illegal immigrants also have records of crimes such as child abuse, armed robbery and so many others.
