Dozens of wildfires have started to steal ground in Texas and firefighters are trying as hard as they can to contain them.
Their priority is now Grimes County where the blaze has charred thousands of acres and forced residents to flee at least nearly 2,000 homes and business. According to Rae Brooks, of the Texas Forest Service, the firefighters’ main priority is concerned with the Dyer Mill fire, which has swiped out thousands of acres and dozens of buildings and homes. It seems that the firefighters hope that the rain which has been announced by forecasters would help them contain all the fires. Wednesday, East Texas should expect some rain, but that is about all. Furthermore, it seems that the temperatures will drop a bit and winds will also decrease, thus helping the firefighters contain the huge blazes that have taken over this part of the country. However, firefighters are still concerned with the tinder-dry vegetation and breezy conditions.
The blaze at Dyer Mill in Grime County started on Sunday at about 5 p.m., near Whitehall, west of Plantersville. More than 26 homes were destroyed and people were forced to evacuate them and more than 4,000 acres of land were blackened by the huge blaze. It is still now known how much, if any, of the fire has been contained until now. Brooks also said that the blaze in Grimes County was not the only one giving a hard time to the firefighters. The Bearing fire in Polk and Trinity counties near Carmona has also created a lot of damage, burning 20,222 acres of land and engulfing 2 houses and 6 cabins, forcing people to evacuate their homes. Furthermore, according to Brooks, there are about 22 more fires which are now worked on in order to be contained, all around East Texas. The dry weather and the vegetation does not help firefighters at all and they have a hard time containing these fires which have forced thousands of people to leave their homes and seek for shelter elsewhere. The fire season started on the 15th of November and since then, more than 12,000 fires have been contained. However, these fired burned to the ground more than 3,000,000 acres since the season started and thousands of people had to evacuate their homes, in order to keep safe. Currently, the firefighters are working hard to contain the huge blazes that are still threatening East Texas.
