"Landep News"
The month of Karthika starts from Vishvakarma Day. On the same day Govardhan Pooja is also performed. The day falls on the fourth day of Diwali.
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna had lifted up the mountain ‘Govardhan’ (Gobardhan) after which the Lord was also called as Gobardhanhari.
Vishwakarma was the architect of Maya Sabha, the palace of King Pandu. He had also designed Dwarka, where Lord Krishna lived.
Therefore, Lord Vishwakarma is also worshipped on this day. People working in industries, workshops, etc mainly worship this Lord, so that he blesses them with all the skills that they require.
Govardhan Pooja on the other hand is performed for the prosperity. This pooja is performed mainly in the northern region of India especially in Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal and Uttarakhand.
The people there build hillocks of cow dung and then decorate those with flowers to give it a look of real mountains. During this Pooja, people read out stories of Krishna and Govardhan mountain.
