Former European champions Inter Milan have completed Jonathan Cicero Moreira’s deal after the 25-year-old right-back penned a four-season contract with the Italians.
The Brazilian is at his third term, having also played for Santos and Cruzeiro. Jonathan turned pro in 2005 and sent five years with Cruzeiro for which he had scored 12 goals and gathered 239 appearances. Winner of this term’s Campeonato Paulista and Copa Libertadores, the defender has set new heights with the Nerrazzuri who are looking forward to strengthening their side for the next term. Coach Gian Piero Gasperini is eyeing the title the former champions failed to defend this past season. Inter finished the season second, but managed instead to grab the second straight Italian Cup.
Jonathan is thus expected to play alongside Cristian Chivu, Maicon, Lucio and Cordoba in the defence. He scored two goals and gathered 17 selections with Santos with which he has split after just six months. “I’m delighted to have this chance to ply my trade here and show what I’m capable of. I know I’m arriving in a team that already has other Brazilians, who are away on international duty at the moment. I’m here to do my job and put everything I’ve got into it,” said the newly-arrived.
Sanoits are very close to lose Neymar, too, the youngster having been hunted by four giants including Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City. According to Brazilian’s agent, the 19-year-old is likely to join Jose Mourinho’s side in winter after he will have made history for with his current team. But Neymar admitted at one point he would like to join a Premier League side, as well, but still the Spaniards are the main candidates for his services, though no offer has been made so far this transfer window.
Inter finished the season with 76 points, six behind new champions and arch-rivals AC Milan, but have already qualified for the next term’s UEFA Champions League the superior phases of which they failed to reach in the previous season, being ousted by Schalke 04 in the quarter finals. Leonardo’s former side managed though to defend the Cup as Inter beat Palermo 3-1 in the big final.
The Nerrazzuri are now confronting with Sneijder and Eto’o’s potential departures from Giuseppe Meazza as both players are reported to have been hunted by Premier League sides, including Manchester United, although Sir Alex Ferguson denied club’s interest in the Dutch. As for the Cameroonian, Eto’o revealed he would like to join the English league this summer, but neither of the top Premiership sides have made any offers.
