Not to be lost in the BCS and Heisman Trophy chatter, Larry Dean, a linebacker at Valdosta State University shattered the school record for tackles in a season.
Dean had eight tackles in the Blazers’ 21-7 victory over Arkansas State Saturday surpassing Jessie Tuggle’s mark of 340 career tackles that stood since 1986. The senior finished the game with 347 career tackles.
Tuggle went on to play for 13 seasons with the Atlanta Falcons.
Valdosta State University is 7-1 overall and 5-1 this season playing in the Gulf South Conference.
