CLEVELAND, Ohio – Just before Christmas, Janet Jackson postponed her "Unbreakable" tour, citing nonspecific medical reasons. It now appears the reason for the postponement may be more serious than anyone imagined.
Radar Online reports Jackson must undergo throat surgery for a tumor that may be cancerous.
"Doctors found a growth on Janet's vocal cords that could be serious," an unnamed source close to Jackson told Radar. "It's a medical condition that has to be taken care of immediately."
In her initial announcement postponing the tour, Jackson admitted, "I learned today, from my doctors, that I must have surgery soon." She did not say what kind of surgery, but asked fans for their prayers. Jackson also insisted all dates would be rescheduled.
However, if Jackson indeed has cancer of the larynx, it would likely require surgery involving an artificial voice box, which could end her singing career.
Jackson or anyone from her team has yet to confirm or deny the report.
