Indian telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, on Thursday said that it has disconnected its services to two of the major operators, Vodafone and Airtel, in the Punjab circle. The authorities of BSNL said that they had taken back their services after some disruption in the landline and the mobile calls in Punjab and also Panchkula in Haryana.
One of the senior BSNL officers said that they have disconnected their services to Vodafone and Airtel due to the non – payment of dues for the inter connectivity between mobile phones and fixed landline phones. Upon contacting the customer care department of Airtel, they had said that there were disturbances in the BSNL landline numbers as the company had discontinued their connectivity due to some issues.
The BSNL officials said that an amount of Rs. 5.97 crores and Rs. 2.16 crores was outstanding towards Airtel and Vodafone respectively. The outstanding dues were for the interconnect user charges for the period of April 2009 and August 2011.
The official added that they had sent several notices to the companies but none of them had paid the dues. Meanwhile, The Cellullar Operations Association (COAI), which is a group of telecom operators had said in a statement that BSNL had disconnected their services in Punjab without any concerns for the customer needs.
