Angels break Texas impressive run
Los Angeles broke Rangers’ remarkable run of 12 wins after edging the West leaders 9-8 thanks to an impressive sixth-inning rally which saw the hosts score six of their nine points.
Texas led Angels 8-3 at one point, only to be left one point adrift one term later. Hamilton put the visitors into a minimal lead in the first term after Beltre doubled to center, while Hunter and Abreu broke back for Angels, making it 2-1 immediately. San Diego grabbed their second straight win over Marlins after destroying them last night at the Sun Life Stadium where the visitors scored 13 of their 14 points in the first two innings. Marlins could only cut the deficits to 11 points, but never threaten with a comeback. Venable opened the early session for Padres with a 368 foot homerun, while Bartlett and Maybin brought a three-point lead in the same first round. Guzman then singled to right as Ludwick made it 4-0.
The second inning saw the same San Diego power through to a much more consistent lead as Venable scored a fifth point after Maybin singled to center. Guzman doubled to left, allowing Bartlett, Maybin and Hudson to draw a comprehensive win in Florida. Furthermore, Gonzalez doubled to left as Guzman scored a ninth one for the unstoppable Padres.
Harang singled to left permitting Gonzalez and Johnson depress the hosts whow ere still struggling for a consolation point. Johnson made it 11-0 after Bartlett singled to right, while Harang and Venable made things look very clear after Ludwick singled to center.
Marlins’ first reply came in the fourth inning when Stanton singled to left for Morrison’s break through. On the other side, Marlins remain bottom in the East with a .480 winning percentage which features 47 wins and 51 defeats, the loss to Padres being their second in a row and third in the past ten games.
Arizona Diamondbacks 2 – 5 Milwaukee Brewers
Brewers needed ten innings to edge Arizona at the Chase Field although they led the hosts 2-0 in the seventh term. Diamondbacks managed to push the game into overtime thanks to a couple of precious points scored late in the eighth round, but failed to grab the victory, as well. That was also the second victory in a row for Milwaukee who remain top spot in their Conference.
Braun opened the game with a 433 footer, while McGehee doubled the lead in the seventh term after Lucroy singled to center. Arizona broke back immediately through Johnson and Parra who made the Brewers fight hard for their win in Phoenix. The ninth round went scoreless for both teams, while the tenth one saw Milwaukee score more points than they had done in the previous nine.

Milwaukee are first in the Central table with a .535 percentage which features 53 wins and 46 losses, sitting .5 ahead of their main followers Pittsburgh who lost their leading position due to a poor result to Cincinnati.
As for Arizona, they have dropped 4.5 behind leaders San Francisco Giants in the West, going second with a .531 record which features 52 wins and 46 defeats, the loss to Brewers being their second in a row, 22nd at home and fifth in the past ten games.
Chicago Cubs 1 – 9 Philadelphia Phillies
Philadelphia have cemented their leading position in the East with a second straight win over Cubs whom the leaders thwarted yesterday at the Wrigley Field where the visitors scored their first eight points in a row. Martinez brought the first lead in the first inning after Howard singled to left. Utley doubled the advantage right afterwards following Victorino’s ground to third.
The second inning saw the same away side score three more points through Worley, Rollins and Martinez, while the third one brought a sixth one from Brown. Things got much worse for the Cubs in the next three terms as Philadelphia made it even 8-0 thanks to Rollins who ended the early session with a 391-foot homerun, his first one of the meeting.
Chicago scored their consolation point in the seventh inning after Soto grounded into fielder’s choice to third. Finally, Rollins hit a second homerun in the eighth round as Phillies were celebrating their 27th victory on the road. They are first in the table with a .629 record which features 61 wins and 36 defeats, the win over Cubs being also their sixth in the past ten games. Chicago are second from the bottom in the Central with a .394 poor percentage, including 39 victories and 60 losses.
Colorado Rockies 3 – 2 Atlanta Braves
Rockies edged Braves last night at the Coors Field after better start which brought them two points. Atlanta could only level the score in the eighth term, but lost the game due to a late point scored by Colorado in the last inning. Helton started the gamed with a 389-foot homerun, being followed by Gonzalez who doubled the lead right afterwards.
Atlanta broke back in the second inning through Heyward who cut the deficit to one point after Ross doubled to center. The next five terms went scoreless for both sides, while the eighth one saw Atlanta threaten with a comeback as Schafer evened the situation after Uggla singled to center. Finally, a late precious point scored by Fowler gave the hosts a hard fought win in front of a 39,000 warmly crowd.
Colorado have started to build streak, the win over Braves being their second in a row. Rockies are third in the West with a .480 record which features 47 wins and 51 losses. Braves sit second in the East with a .582 winning percentage, including 57 victories and 41 defeats, the loss to Colorado being their second in a row, 22nd on the road and fifth in the past ten games.
New York Mets 6 – 5 St. Louis Cardinals
Mets needed ten terms to get rid of Cardinals whom they edged last night at the Citi Field. St. Louis were stunned by a late comeback provided by New York who managed to overcome a 0-4 deficit set by the visitors in the first three rounds. Holliday hit a sacrifice fly to center as Schumaker put the away side into a minimal lead in the first inning.
The second round went scoreless for both sides, while the third one saw the same Cardinals extend their lead consistently. Jay grounded to second, allowing McClellan to make it 2-0 with Schumaker getting to third. Holliday then doubled to right as Schumaker made it even three, while Berkman singled to center for Holliday’s fourth point.
Mets broke back in the same term through Duda and Thole who cut the deficit to two points. The fourth inning also went dry for the two sides, while the fifth one highlighted New York leveling the score through Beltran who fired a 421 footer and Reyes. Cardinals got back into the lead in the eighth term when Holliday tried to resuscitate his side. St. Louis conceded another point in the same round as Pagan pushed the game into overtime. Finally, the same Pagan hit a 395 footer for a big win.
