Dwyane Wade was knocked late in the first quarter, but fortunately returned in the second. Unfortunately, neither him, nor LeBron could help Miami to provide the comeback, though Erik Spoelstra’s side led Dallas 99-95 at one point in the last term. Finally, Dallas beat Heat 112-103 to go 3-2 in the finals.
The Mavericks hit 13 three-pointers in LeBron’s biggest career game, not allowing the visitors to win any of the four quarters. Miami edged the home side 31-30 in the first quarter, only to be left four points behind in the second one. As for the second part, the Mavs managed to keep up the good work and extend their advantage to five points thanks to a 24-22 third term win. Finally, Dallas overcame Miami 28-24 in the last round to stun the favorites with their first lead of the finals. The next two stops are at the American Airlines Arena.
Dirk Nowitzki was simply of fire, hitting 29 points past the favorites, but so did Jason Terry who propelled his side ahead of Miami with minutes left, converting three precious three-pointers. Nowitzki grabbed six rebounds, delivered three assists and made one steal, while Terry, a reserve last night, came off the bench to add 21 points and perform six assists and four rebounds.
Jose Juan Barea finished his 26-minute intervention with 17 points, five assists and to rebounds, by far one of his best finals performances. Tyson Chandler and Jason Kidd scored 13 points, each, with the first one grabbing seven rebounds and the latter one going for six assists, three steals, two rebounds and one block. Finally, starter Shawn Marion came up with eight points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Dallas’s bench added 32 points, most of which being added b Terry. Brian Cardinal and DeShawn Stevenson had four points, each, while Ian Mahinmi, who played eight minutes, added three and picked a rebound. Carlisle kept Corey Brewer, Peja Stojakovic and Rodrigue Beaubois on the bench throughout the entire meeting.
Concerning the three-point performers, they were Barea, who converted four of five attempts and Terry and Kidd who both converted three of five. Cardinal, Stevenson and Nowitkzi had one. Dallas finished with 26 rebounds, four of which offensive ones.
On the other side, Miami’s Big Trio scored just 59 points, something which affected the team’s final score. Dwyane had 23 points, eight assists, two rebounds, two steals and one block, Chris Bosh 19 points, ten rebounds, one assist and one block, while LeBron, who converted just eight of 19 FGM attempts, came up with 17 points. He counter-balanced his poor scoring performance with ten rebounds and ten assists, but even so what Miami needed from him was some points. James also missed four of four three-point throws.
Finally, starters Joel Anthony and Mike Bibby added two points, each, with the second one picking at the same time two rebounds. Heat’s reserves scored 40 points, though, 25 of which being added by Mario Chalmers and Udonis Haslem. The first one, who added 15 of them, converted four of six three-point attempts, performing four rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Mike Miller came off the bench to add nine points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal, Juwan Howard added six, while Eddie House, who played three minutes, missed his both FGM attempts. James Jones and Erick Dampier did not play. Overall, Miami converted just eight three-pointers, three of which being brought by Miller and one by Wade. They finished with 36 rebounds, nine of which offensive ones.
Said Nowitzki: “We didn’t want to go to Miami and give them basically two shots to close us out. So we kept plugging there in the fourth. So definitely a big win for us. And now we have to go down there and basically approach Sunday’s game as Game 7.” The Mavericks are now one win from their second straight title, but they will surely have some hard times at the Airlines Arena as Game six and seven are scheduled to take place on Sunday and Tuesday.
