Samuel Eto’o has declared he does not exclude the possibility of leaving Inter Milan for a Premier League side. The 30-year-old Cameroonian, who has joined the Nerrazzuri back in 2009, revealed at the same time he was made a few offers, but hasn’t agreed on any of them yet.
Inter look desperate, though, to keep the striker on Giuseppe Meazza, while the player still considers a new move, most likely in England. Eto’o refused to reveal the name of the teams which are interested in his services, but acknowledged he has always considered a transfer in Premiershp, though he hasn’t had the opportunity to do so yet. Winner of the last year’s UEFA Champions League trophy and this term’s Italian Cup, the Cameroonian is under contract with the Italians until 2014, but he is likely to break the deal much earlier.
“It is true that I have a few offers. I have a month off now to evaluate all of them and decide what to do. I’m 30, I’m close to my final big contract and we’ll have to see whether I should stay or go. (Moving to England) it’s an idea that I have had in my head for a while,” said the forwarder who scored the most points for Inter this term. Eto’o finished the season with 21 goals, nine assists, 122 shots and was selected in 35 games. Overall, the Cameroonian was the third best top-scorer in Serie A after Udinese’s Antonio di Natale, who had 28 and Napoli’s Edison Cavani who scored 26 goals. Samuel is also the best assister at Giuseppe Meazza, being followed by Maicon who delivered eight crucial passes this term.
Inter failed to defend the title, finishing the season second with 76 points, six behind the arch-rivals AC Milan who have won their 18th Schudetto title in club history. Eto’o scored two goals in Inter’s 3-1 win against Palermo in the Italian Cup final. Over the last years, the Cameroonian has been named one of the best strikers in the world, his honors including the 2005 FIFA World Player of the Year, UEFA Champions League Best Forward, managing to finish top of the top-scorers’ table in La Liga back in 2006 while playing for FC Barcelona. He is also winner of the African Cup of Nations All-Time Scorer award, honor won in 2006.
The Nerrazzuri and AC Mialn are to play the Supercup the next period, the clash being expected to take place in China at the Beijing National stadium. Inter haven’t made yet any big transfer, but coach Leonardo, who joined the Meazza side last year, could be replaced by Argentina’s manager Marcelo Bielsa. Leonardo’s performance with Inter includes 22 wins, three draws and seven defeats. The Brazilian left AC Mlian for the local rivals after a poor season with the Rossoneri with whom he had won just 23 games and lost 12 within one year.
