A female with Thailand citizenship has been sentenced to 10 years jail time by Denpasar District Court for smuggling methamphetamine to Indonesia. Jip Jampasuk (28 yrs old) was caught smuggling the illegal substance to Bali at Ngurah Rai Airport lat January 2011.
The judge decision is based on facts that was reinforced by witnesses’ testimony and concluded that Jampasuk was guilty. “The defendant proved to have been manufacturing, importing, exporting, or distributing narcotics group I in the form of non plants that weighs more than five grams. This is stipulated in Article 113 Paragraph 2 of Act No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics,” said the Chief Judge Parulin Saragih when reading his verdict.
Besides sentenced to 10 years in prison, Jampasuk was also fined USD 200,000 subsidiary of six months in jail. Hearing this decision, Jampasuk that during the trial already looked tense, came to a shock and her eyes filled with tears.
Jampasuk who work at a supermarket in Thailand, was arrested in Bali on January 9, 2011 at Ngurah Rai Airport, Denpasar from Bangkok on Thai Airways flight TG 431. Custom officer notice that Jampasuk appeared jittery, and when officials patted her down, they noticed a hard bulge in her abdomen. Her suspicious movements attracted the attention of customs officials.
After not finding anything in Jampasuk bag, the officer then do body check in a special room. The officials became increasingly suspicious after feeling Jampasuk stomach that was solid and hard when touched.
Jampasuk was then taken by the custom officer to BIMC hospital for a CT scan. The results of abdominal CT showed that Jampasuk has 16 capsules containing meth weighing 358 grams valued at USD 85,000. It took four days for the drugs to come out from her stomach. After questioning, Jampasuk then brought to the Bali Police to undergo subsequent legal process.
Jampasuk said he admitted that she had been asked to traffic the drugs by a Nigerian man called Steven, who she knew in Thailand
