The EU has issued a list of airlines barred from and to EU airspace and this time four Indonesian cargo airlines are no longer included in the blacklist. The four airlines were proposed to be excluded from the blacklist at the EU Council meeting last April 5-8.
In the latest list issued by the EU Civil Aviation Authority on April 20, 2011, those four Indonesian cargo airlines were PT Cardig, PT Air Maleo, Asia Link, and Republic Express.
“The issuance of the four Indonesian cargo airline is the result of negotiations conducted by the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation and the EU Civil Aviation Authority” said Transportation Ministry spokesman Bambang Ervan Supriyadi in Jakarta, Thursday (04/21/2011).
The Ministry of Transportation prior to the council meeting in April 2011 has been conducting negotiations with the EU Civil Aviation Authority on this issue. In these negotiations, the Government of Indonesia requested that four companies were removed from the list of EU flight ban because these airlines does not have any interests in the EU, does not operate to and in the EU airspace and not carrying any cargo transport associated with EU countries..
“Therefore, the exclusion of Cardig, Air Maleo, Asia Link, and Republic Express does not mean the companies are automatically in compliance with the EU aviation safety standards,” said Bambang.
Based on the latest list of EU Civil Aviation Authority, there are already 10 Indonesian airlines excluded from the EU’s no-fly list. Those airliners are Garuda Indonesia, Airfast Indonesia, Mandala Airlines, Ekspres Transportasi Antabenua, Indonesia Air Asia, and Metro Batavia.
Unlike the current 4, those 10 airlines were excluded because they actually comply now with the EU aviation safety standards.
Bambang also explained that the Transportation Ministry will continue its effort to exclude Indonesian airliners from the no fly list. These can either be through standard upgrade no interest reason such as the one being used on the four airlines.
The Indonesian government will continue its effort to exclude more Indonesian airlines from the list at the Session of the EU Commission in June 2011.
