June 2011 seems to be a great month for Google Chrome. StatCounter has recently announced that it has hit 20 percent market share while Net Applications estimated 13 percent. No matter the figures, the main idea is that Chrome is on its way to surpass IE and Firefox.
Although the two main browser researchers disagree on the numbers, the increasing popularity of Google Chrome among Internet researchers in undeniable. According to StatCounter, Chrome’s market share has increased from 2.8 percent in June 2010 to 20.7 percent in June this year, while according to Net Applications it is only an increase of 0.6 percent from the 12.5 percent in May 2011. If we were to consider the numbers provided by StatCounter, Chrome is soon going to catch up with Firefox at 28.3%. The leading player remains in June IE with 43.6% while Safari and Opera are fighting for survival with 5 percent and 1.7 percent in June 2011. Basing its study on these numbers, Royal Pingdom, has estimated that Chrome will be able to surpass Firefox in November 2011 and Internet Explorer by the middle or end of 2012.
On the other hand, Net Applications sees Internet Explorer as a detached leader with 53.7 percent market share, followed by Firefox with 21.7 percent while Safari and Opera are estimated to have 7.5 percent and 1.7 percent. As you can see the numbers may be different, but the ranking is the same.
According to eWEEK, Chrome has already reached 160 million users and is quickly approaching 200 million users. Quite a milestone, isn’t it? This impressive growth is due to the new features released almost on a daily basis that differentiate this browser from the similar products on the market. An example of such a unique feature is the possibility to perform a voice search on your desktop with the help of Google Chrome. Who wouldn’t give it a try? Also helpful was the marketing plan that included an entire year of advertising on high-profile channels. Besides the browser, the company also brought in the spotlight the Chrome Operating System that attracted a lot of attention.
It’s obvious that a product which is all about novelty and is focused on providing its users with a full experience will have success. In fact, in May, Google’s officials have started promoting Chrome as the center of any user’s life with the intention of introducing a new Chrome product, the Chrome OS notebook. Who knows what’s next. But the thinking should not prevent us from enjoying the opportunity to try a new gadget. What do you say? Would you give a chance to Google Chrome if you haven’t done that already?
