Rupert Murdoch Answers Questions to British Parliament Related to Phone-hacking
Rupert Murdoch
Rupert Murdoch, the chief of News Corporation, told the Parliament on Tuesday that this day was the “most humble day of my life,” as he was called by the democratic body to testify in the case of phone hacking that jolted the entire Britain.
The parliament committee began the hearing in this case with the testimony of Murdoch’s son James, who told them that what happened was not in keeping with the standard of the company.
He reminded that the News of the World newspaper was closed, and expressed regret that things turned out this way and that they couldn’t be resolved faster.
Rupert Murdoch said that he did not know details of what was going on, and concluded that the company broke the trust with the readers.
He received the question whether Rebekah Brooks and James Murdoch had informed him that the victims of phone hacking received monetary settlements, and he replied that though he did not recall it, his son must have told him something.
During the hearing, James Murdoch interrupted a few times to ask if he could answer the question and was told by the member of the parliament that was asking them that he preferred to hear the elder Murdoch answering them.
Sir Paul Stephenson, former Met Pol commissioner, who resigned last week, said that it was reports in the press about people working for the force who were on the NoW’s payroll that made him come to the decision to resign.

He stressed out that resigning was a decision entirely made but himself and that no one pushed him to it in any way.
John Yates, assistant Met Pol commissioner, said he had been presented with evidence regarding the cases of phone hacking and that he had decided that they were not worth investigating them deeper.
Rebekah Brooks, who was arrested last week and was released on bail, must also appear before the parliamentary commission on Tuesday to explain the cases of hacking into people’s phones.
As the inquiry is getting deeper and deeper, the number of victims to such act increases to 4,000 on British territory, all of these illegal actions encouraged by editors and protected to some extent by the police officers in their payroll.
News Company, whose name is directly linked to the one of the Murdoch family, apologized last week for the wrongdoings in the rival newspapers.
